I'm still down the lower part of the curve of the learning curve. Today took my old machine back to the mud flats and took out a half penny, a couple of pennies and a few modern coins just to reassure myself that I can still do it.

Let me know once you back in Auckland- we can do Mud Search togather :-)

Test gardens can be very helpful. I didn't plant anything of value, but instead used similar id'ing items - for example a lead sinker and a 20c piece can sound like gold on my machines. 2c piece is close to silver etc. Also planted some rubbish like bottle tops, screw caps, both of the main pull tap sorts etc. It was great when fiddling with settings to squeeze out the most from the machines.

Unfortunately the landlord decided to move a pile of clay last week and spread it out over the top of the back lawn! My carefully planted garden with items at various depths is now all 6" deeper!!! But have countered the problem by getting myself a bigger coil for the V3i :)

It might have a couple of competitions like a "guess what this is?"competition and a "write a short story about one item from the exhibition" competition aimed at the school kids.

Good keen lad in that weather tonz! Long as its not raining Im keen too even if its freezing.

Well done on your hard work for the exhibition-i'm sure everyone and the kids will love it!
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

That sounds so cool - the kids will go gaa gaa and you will get a great deal of satisfaction out of seeing them get excited about the exhibition and the prospects of going treasure hunting themselves - you may not be thanked by dozens of parents whose children are pestering them to buy metal detectors but thats not relevant!
As for the sovereign or two - good things take time and patience is rewarded.

Hi DrunkBrother. As mentioned last week I will be in Auckland tomorrow night if you want to catch up? Couldnt find your phone number on the blog. My cell is 027 2762382 if you want to txt me then I can ring you.

Just an idea but if a few of you want to get together for an informal gathering, that could work. Im restricted to central city and have no transport (this may also involve some small amounts of refreshments). Also no internet for me up there so I need to be organised by thurs morning. Anyone else is free to txt if they wish.

Cheers Mike.

The hot rocks on our beach generally come from bonfire debris. But you might be lucky and have an out of space visitor.

Hi Tonz

That ring is very similar to one I found in the sand in Corsair Bay in Chch some years ago. I'll have a look at my treasure chest in the garage and get a photo of it. But the symbols, letters do look the same
