Cheers Kiwisouth

I have looked at some but was dubious about the quality as many of them look like toys, no doubt some better than others.
I have even seen one on you tube made from a pvc cylinder sitting on some office chair type coasters driven by a rubber band and a battery drill. If it works it works I guess.

Tumbling coins has got to be the worst idea out there. You may as well attack them with sandpaper, or clean them up with an arc welder.

Well I have found that tumbling is a good way to wash goldies before taking them to the bank.

Tumbling is fine for non-valuable coins. Tumbling modern currency (NZ or overseas) etc won't do any harm and as Metal Kiwi says it allows you to take the goldies to the bank. If the coin is a collectors item then yes keep them out of the tumbler - a soak in olive oil for a couple of weeks is the most that should be done and only on coins in bad condition. I've tumbled all my pennies from 1900-1967 as these are pretty worthless. The tumbling removed any corrosion and encrustations but left the patina on and they came up well.

Got my tumbler from http://www.rotorualapida...z/acatalog/Tumblers.html they give a fantastic service and the price was right.

Thanks guys
I kinda thought it went without saying to leave the goodies alone as some people feel it's a crime punishable by death just for rubbing your finger over them. I'm getting pretty close to being able to return some older decimal coins and I am partial to those older pennies as well so I guess there is no harm in that and my old man has a heap of stones from Birdlings Flat so a tumbler would have a use if it was cheap enough.
As I'm a person that is curious about things I tried electrolysis on a $1 coin once it looks pretty darn clean although it is now a gold/bronze colour, I don't do that any more *8^)

Something about those pennies, the very first one I found was in very bad condition and is hard to tell what it is.
One park here, there must be hundreds, I've pulled about a dozen out so far, it was also where I found my first two silvers.
Never thought coins would interest me but once you have them they are hard to part with!

Exactly. Coins become interesting when you go hunting for them, whether it be a 1 cent piece or a penny.
Thats a good haul you got there Poohbear. 4 silvers in one hunt is cool but that 1879 penny is even cooler. Whats the oldest coin any of us have found here in NZ. My oldest is a 1854 penny token.
