Picked up my CTX3030 from Detectnz today so starting a new thread for all the Gold and Silver goodies I will be finding.
First hunt was in coin mode at a park that I have worked over well with the Euroace and 270win has had a good go at this spot too with his Goldbug.
The knife, heart and $2 were fresh drops and the decimals all came from 4-5 inches down.

2nd hunt about 20 minutes long, again in coin mode but this time with the wireless headphones sorted.

Nice half penny and a decimal pocket spill.

You will love the CTX3030 its the Rolls Royce of metal Detectors. When you get your head around it use the GPS function. Take the disc to a printer and get the Manual printed. It only cost me $18.00 to have it done and ring bound. Go on Ebay and and get Andy Sabichs CTX 3030 book, its worth its weight in gold. One Ounce has one and me, and Metal Kiwi. A CTX3030 that is. One Ounce has Andys book as do I. Just stick with the factory presets for a start. I will send you Andys tweeked Minelab presets when you are ready. Its a fun machine, its an Etrac on steroids.
Keep us posted. Start of in auto plus 3. Turn volume gain up to 30. Page 23 in the manual.

And turn target trace on Page 11.

Have fun. When I send you Andys tweeked settings you will love relic. It grunts on iron, beeps high on all the good stuff. And target trace shows you the good signals. They are easy to download and put on the CTX3030. I will send you a link to a great utube video of how to do it all. Very easy peasy. It did take me time to get to know my 3030. So start at the begining and shout out when you want to know more. Welcome to the CTX3030 club. Not cheap but now you have the best metal detector money can buy.

thanks hatter, i do like the combination of tones and numbers and target depth all coming at once and the target depth and pinpoint are dead on accurate.
I had already figured out the volume gain but I will try the rest of your suggestions over the next few hunts.
Please do post the links to the you tube video.

Hey WestieDigger - way to go. Had mine one year yesterday and scored 139 rings so far. Took a month or two to get into it. Andy's book well worth it.

Look forward to seeing how you go.

Hi Westie

Have sent you those links via PM, and the top CTX3030 forum links. The forums can be good reading. And have a lot of good tips. But everybody thinks they have found the ultimate program, well it may work for them. But not guranteed for everybody else. As alway the auto v Manuel sensitivty arguement pops up. Manuel around 27 seems to be a useful feature. Could be a bit of chatter tho. I kinda jump between the two.
But mainly run in auto +3.

Pulled a 6 penny pocket spill. One was a aussie penny. Ranged from 1941-1956.
Anither half penny 1941
Coins galore.
A pretty but junk amethyst ring.
Not shown a fork and spoon to go with the knife I found Saturday. And a kaput cellphone.

Hi All

Tonight I felt in the mood to experiment. With the CTX3030. Using Andy Sabischs Relic mode on open screen. The second screen. Not an air test. I have packed bags of sand and rock. Easily picked up a penny at 11 inches. Now I have to go get more sand to fill some more bags. I was using manual on 27. Now thats pretty impressive. The values were jumping all over the place. But it was a good dig me signal. On pinpoint I got a true reading, after a moment or two. Wow. And I got the black target locator not the dreaded red one. Black is good red is bad. Double wow

I have got andys modes loaded and the gps on.
Went to another trashy park to test. Wasn't there for long as just trying to get a plot for the gps. Got some 1c and 2c from where amongst some buried charcoal that made the pinpointer go nuts but got them out the old school way of waving handfuls of dirt in front of the coiI.
