My two best coins have been found on gravel driveways a spit from the door...

I found my first coin that way when I was 13 it was a 1941 three pence British... but I was living in New York USA! And yes they just graveled my driveway! That is what got me into coin collecting and metal detecting.... I was hooked!

Yes im thouroly wrapped with the token find, have picked it up for a look every time i walk past it on the bench about 50 times..
Oh to find a quarts seem. Not many if any around here. Bro wants to go to Thames again soon. Maybe some of us could meet there and get it happening. Gotta find some real GOLD soon.
Oh the 16 rings. You would think that at least one would be GOLD...lol. How many rings has anyone found before they got there first gold one. Anyone beat 16...hmmm
Its true id say that alot of treasure is in ones backyard and a drivewsay is as good a spot as any to start. My lawn is alive with metal but i dont want to dig it up.
Sis is down in whangarai and she goes out diggin with Chrisyboy (bro). Yes she loves fossicking.

You should get it check cause my gold ring had no markings on it... took it to local gold buyer and then to a jeweler and they said it was 18k... almost peed myself when I found out... lol. I could have been steel or silver but my gut said it was gold... try and see and let us know :)

ohh that's what that sound was... lol

actually I think that the guy who found the gold sovereign is a tin arse... for real! what a find!

Now that is an extreme example of begginners luck... or very tinny...lol. Nice one all the same. Ive found gold plate, imitation gold, but no gold gold...No rush i guess. That day will come and it will be a great day, oh yeh, you will all hear about it for long time...
My work colleage was a jeweler of 20 years, so i bug him with all my finds. Took him on a beach on the way home from work oneday and buzzed a silver ring within minutes, ha, wot a fluke. But the fact remains that somehow, someway the finds have to be evaluated/looked at and knowone will do it for free. Hmmm...very tinny with that first gold ring find... lol

Shane

Im wondering too now that wot rights do we have when it comes to buzzing around. I know its been talked about before but its come back to mind. Anyone!

Goldnut I'm taking the 9ct medal to the jewellers shortly to have it profesionally cleaned and have the wee gold golf balls soldered back on so I will take that other ring and show him

Choice. No prob. Bring it on, i dig photos. Good to see. I was just about to brag again about my copper 1854 penny token, i found yesterday, which makes it 157 years old. Again 157 years old.
A quick reminder pic

Hope that ring turns out to be a gold one. Cool collection you got there. Really dig those badges and medals.

I love thinking about how some of these coins end up where they do... I found this 1912 penny at a beach and I can't help but wonder how it got there and how long it was there for... it could have been underground for 80-99 years!

Also, I took my detector to one of those memorial plaques that tell you what used to be here a hundred years ago and found a coin that was from that era.... I thought that was cool...

So how many times have you "passed by" the coin creamer? lol

shane as far as i know..we are aloud to detect beaches and parks without permission..and most a&p showgrounds give permission no probs...also domains which is just another word for parks such as the ashburton domain you dont need permission...
Schools are another thing all together....i had one school here give me permission and then later tell me i had to stop...not because of what i was doing but because the kids that saw what i was doing on the weekend went back to school during the week and pulled all my plugs out and started throwing them at eachother so that put a stop to it...
They appolgized to me for having to make me stop as they saw i was leaving my holes filled in and as clean as possible..it was only because of the little ones that they stoped me.
Hope this answers your question somewhat.

The coin has been at my feet for some years, just had to look down at it for a visual. There are some old tractors buried in the banks/slopes there and im wondering if somehow they are connected. Still it seems to have been hit by a powerful mower and probably travelled some distance. Just lucky with this one.
That find on the memorial sounds cool. Nice achievment to find a coin that goes with it.
Hey nice ring Madsonic. Got some character about it. Shame its not gold but a great find anyhow. Oh to find a gold ring. You and me both... And that penny, 157 years old. Thats neally the start of colonisation. Who ever thought that coins could be so fasinating.
Well i figuered that detecting is fine in most places. When fossicking for gold or jewells we shouldnt have to be lookin over shoulders wondering if where doin the right thing. Gold sluicing is neally a crime unless your at the allowed spots and that is sad. Untold places to go yet we are limited in our actions. Im finding Starflashs post very interesting at the moment. I know theres gold 10-15 minutes from me but i cant access these spots cos there well guarded so to speak. Im going to try one spot eventually with permission i hope. Yummm...gold

#35 trip. The site trip 7. This spot intensifies as i grid more carefully. Gettin grassy now and hard to dig as my foldable shovel is woblly (wearing out big time) and insificient for the job. Hittin coin well over 6-8 inches deep in the hard ground. Battling through the junk. So noisy (when gettin on dark) that ive starteds to use my headphones so i cant be heard. Most targets are about 6 inches deep and ding away on the machine no worries. 2 goldies, 10 coins all up. One was a 1939 nz threepence. Best one i got there so far was a 1934 nz threepence.

Just burried some lead in the back yard and run the ace 350 over it. well, shock. Came up as iron and bounced around between gold and silver some of the time. Mostly iron. 3 ounce ball sinker burried at 300mm/12 inches and re hard packed with dirt only dinged on all metal (was quiet on all other settings allthough did show iron on the screen). And the 4 gram piece at 100mm, a small gold ring at 200ish and the lead roofing nail head at 200+. Wot does that mean, well considering i dont dig up iron... GOLD maybe. First time trial there. Hmmm

Shane you could try doing the same tests with the items on the ground surface and see what you get.
Or lay the detector on a table with the coil over the edge and do an air test on all items.
You might get unusual readings if the sensitivity is set too high too. From memory I used to
run my 250 on about 3 segments sens most of the time.
