#23 trip. Woke up fairly sorish after sundays trip. 6 hours of beach buzzing must burn up some calories. Not gettin any younger.. First beach i went was Tauranga Bay beach And butterfly Bay there as well. Difficult beach to buzz over as it was all up and down and messyish. Found 1 coin and nails and a kids toy. Hmmm. I kinda know where the coins were, up in the grass dunes but they had a replant goin on so i left that area alone. So i left 4 wot i thought would be another hard beach but to my surprise this one had two coin lines and was goin off. One in the middlish and one along the top.Was there till darkness sent me home once again. One more ding ding i said to myself and im off, ding ding ding, a big solid silver hit, i pull up a massive silver ring, well so i thought, happy as i rushed back to the light of the car to find it was part of a fishing rod.. true ya gotta laugh.. 5 in goldies, 25 coins and a pendant.
First beach of the day

Second beach. I often bring home a rock sample from each trip.

You sure in heck dont want to keep everything - I notice that lots of guys on here are non selective - if you keep everything your back yard and house will look like mine and be well assured you dont want that.
I do keep containers each with a different scrap metal in but nails, trinkets, beads, baubles and junk I discard.

Well to say the least bro i have become acusstomed to a good coin and junk fest (i do believe this is the term now but i will use it loosely.. lol). The coins go in one container and the Space Junk (everything else) in another. Got heaps of lead. Im going to make some hang up dangly things with some of the coins. I have a costomer who lives at one of the nearby beaches and i will give her one. This in return, i feel, will create some possitive feedback about detectorists and myself of coarse.

Congrats on finding your first Gold Chrisyboy.

Yes recycling is an option when theres enough.

My 2 cent piece is still alive in its coca cola bath. 5 days now. Silver coin was wipeable after 3 or 4 hours.

Space Junk adding up.

Cant believe it. Thought i found a ring again but turned out to be an eye of a fishing rod.. not again..

Found my first shilling. 1964. I saw the bracelet before the shovel did and carefully removed it then wrapped it up. Was heavilly encrusted and fragile.

On the subject of junk I separate out all the aluminium and iron/steel and periodically chuck it in the appropriate bin at the recycling centre. The copper, brass and lead I have been saving in a bucket and plan to sell that some day. I do save the curious bits just to show people what you can find with a detector. As Lammerlaw says you can soon bury yourself so I try to only save the very best rocks etc I find and I still seem to have a lot of stuff cluttering up the place.

I have been leaving each missions finds in seperate dishs/containers so that i can properly document them and go back to that find for some reoson if i have to, and its starting to build up in the shed. So i see wot yourself and Lammerlaw are saying now. I have a very good lead sinker collection..

Hey Creamer that pohutukawa shot made me suddenly homesick for AK . Tell you all a story about Milford beach, North Shore. When I was young my younger brother Peter and sister Suzie dug a massive hole in the sand at Milford beach. They swear to this day they came across a large chained box deep in the sand. They tried to get it open but to no avail. Then they reburied it. They were young and didn't know what else to do with it. That was some 25 years or so ago. The story remains part of our family mythology that has been discussed over the years. This Christmas when I pass my detector over the sands of Milford beach picking out the coins and what not, I'm going to dream again of what is buried deep below the range of my detector.

Whos to say that it might be not so deep still. We find pennys and such that are 70 years old. It would possibly come up as iron on the detector. Usually i dont dig the iron. Cool story.

Rgmcbrid. Yes to find a triple gold ring must be one of the more ultimate finds. They are commonly known as a Russian Wedding Ring. Made of yellow, rose and white gold.

#27 trip. Back to finish of the last beach. I normally have 2 or 3 goes before each one is done properly. 1 goldie, 4 coins all up and yes, more lead..

On the way home i stopped at a small beach just cos i can.. It was gettin dark so out came the headlamp. 3 goldies, 4 coins in all and a Marks and Spencer watch. Also made a quick stop at a boatramp for a 5 cent piece and also a few laps of an old church/YHA site which they just bulldozed. Talk about metal in the ground.. the ace was goin mental continuously, wot a mess underground..hmmm. Amongst the chaos on the screen i managed two 5 cent pieces. Should have worn my headphones as the beep beepin was loud in the night. And its right on the bypass roundabout in town.. The ace is a loud machine with volume on the headphones only. I will try a few more laps after dark.

#28 trip. A few hours at a cool beach for the third time. Went to cover a spot that i missed and was a good thing. 9 goldies, 32 coins in all, a toe ring and a brotche. A couple of the coins were sitting on the surface. Was windy on the beach and the sand was blowing around.

Great posts Shane.
Especially enjoying the beach shots as although I grew up in KK I haven't seen any of the beaches
around there for maybe 30 years and it is quite hard working out where you are as tree's grow etc..
In the pic with the Ace in the foreground is there a river behind you?

The wire bending, forging and tapping.
