So.... last weekends rolex is indeed genuine and has been valued at $3,500 by the rolex dealer in the city!!! However it needs some repairs to the bezel and crown that will cost $1500 or maybe more. Stoked though!

Today I hit the beach for a couple of hours and scored three nice gold rings and a silver ring and shilling! Back into it today!

Another great result Hat.
Have you deciphered either of the hall marks yet?

Hey mate. I had a quick look but can never quite work it out. Usually get stuck on the letter. Can't convince myself of what they are

I managed to drag myself out of bed this morning at 8 20 am. Low tide was at 9am so I skipped breakfast and drove down to a local beach. Found nearly nothing first half hour then got a pull tab. A metre from the pull tab another similar signal. Out pops a nice 18ct ring with ruby? and diamonds? !! Was surprised to get it next to a pull tab. Couple signals later I got the chunky stonemasons ring, and only 2m from the first ring.
Then it went quiet for a while, till I got a large (in terms of size) but not too loud signal. Usually large equals junk, well I'll dig it anyway. Out pops a small sinker. That's not all I though, too big a signal. On re scanning sure enough another signal. Bang out pops another ring, this time a 14ct ring! Seems the signals were close together and overlapping. Well what a morning, only been at it an hour! Then it went quiet again and I thought Id head home. Walking back to the car along the beach I was speed scanning and got and isolated scratchy signal. Was out in first scoop. Rubbish I though. Well no it was a gold ring. It is the signet ring on the left. Very thin and worn. It is missing part of the band although not visible in the photo. It has the start and end of the hallmarks but is missing the carat stamp. Oh well I'll take it.

Happy hunting,

Hatter

Yeah looks like a goodie.
Is that 18ct one a Lodge members ring?
I imagine that one would have sounded pretty good.

Yeah it's a freemasonry ring. Good to get chunky 18ct. A good keeper. Won't be too many of them about.

Ok well how many gold rings will you get next weekend I wonder.
I suspect your hunting where quite a few others do so it supports the
rule that "no one gets everything" for sure.

I put it down to knowing a bit about where mother nature deposits things and a good dose of good luck thrown in. I got nothing last Sunday. The main thing is to be out there doing it.

Stunning weather today, almost too good to go detecting. Yeah right!!

I had to search long and hard for decent targets today. The spot was not as productive as last weekends quadruple gold.
I managed to get the half crown early on, my first since I left Dunedin at the end of 2012. The 18ct ring was the last target I dug after a solid three hours detecting. Happy hunting folks

Wow three months with no post on this thread.... Better sort that out! So my old Sovereign is on sabbatical, the old beast that it is, so I had to go and get a replacement. The replacement ended up being a Minelab Excalibur with nice fluro paintwork and a 10 inch coil. I have had 5 trips out with is so far and found 4 bits of gold. I had a sparkling start by finding a 3g 9ct ring with 40 stones that are presumably the worlds smallest diamonds. Following this I found a 5.6g 9ct ring in the central North Island. Today I got a very small, thin 18ct band which I cant weigh because my scales went on sabbatical along with my sovereign. Also found half of a flimsy 9ct bangle today.
Also in the mix are a partial Seiko Sports watch, a sterling silver necklace thing that I have bent into a spiral and half of a SILV ring.

More to come..... I hope.

'Bout time I came out of hibernation and started posting again (Yawns and stretches).

Some great finds there Hatter, good to see your still detecting the shiny yellow stuff (even if it is rings and not the nuggies).

Hey chaps and chapettes,

Just a quick update today. Managed to get out for a buzz yesterday after work to a very sanded in beach with lots of waves.
I found a small patch amongst the fruitless new sand where a rip current had done some clearing and found these treasures.

Cant wait for the weekend to go have another outing!

I wear them all, actually am running out of finger space. Ha-ha no I have sold virtually all of them. I keep the silver ones as I am planning to make a nice silver bar some day. Gold is too expensive to have sitting around doing nothing.
