I guess that is partly why you are having success with the gold too. Both heavy items.
I like to find lead to hopefully find gold on a beach. Often just wishful thinking though.

The recent storm we had up here has stripped a lot of sand off some areas and unfortunately buried a highly jewellery productive area.
Yesterday I spent a bit of time at a very eroded spot where over a metre of sand had been washed away. This had exposed a weakly cemented shelly sand base against a retaining wall/pile of boulders. Well the area was so loaded with coins in some areas Id get several out of one hole. Maybe half the coins from yesterday are form there. Today I revisited this area and continued cleaning out the spot. Its only maybe 30m long and a few m wide. Nothing outrageously good came out but a large number of coins again, 6 silvers and a gold men's ring. The coins ran out after a couple of hours at this spot so I explored around a bit but couldn't find hardly anything so went home.

Looking forward to next hunt already.

I had this coin that I was half sure was silver but I could only make out what I thought might be a head of some sort on it.
I put it in cloudy ammonia for a while and nothing happened. I then forgot about it for a while. Well yesterday I put it in some vinegar and left it overnight. Today I can clearly see young Victoria and some writing that says 1885 shilling. My oldest coin in Auckland thus far. Unfortunately I have only managed one short hunt since my last finds an all I found were 3 bits of junk jewellery and the odd coin. Hopefully will improve on that this weekend.

The Sovereign lives!! After the recent illness of my detector I was itching to get out for a detect. Last Saturday I went out for a couple of hours to a couple of spots, one mudflat beach and one sandy. Nothing but old junk at the mudflat beach. The sandy beach provided a real treat, it had some bedrock and I got a signal in a bit of a depression/crevice. Well out pops a 925 ring, cool. Re-scan the hole, another signal, out pops an 18ct 3.7g ring!!! Nice.
So today I headed out to another beach and gave it my best for 4 hours. I managed a 9ct 1.5g ring, half of a 9ct gold locket (1g), a mens 925 ring, a silver with stones pendant and the icing on the cake was a 18ct 7.9g whopper!!!
So yes, the reigning sovereign lives on

So my Minelab sovereign found a real gold sovereign today!!!! My wife and I were going out to a theme park today so I said to my flatmate he could take my detector for a spin at the beach. He's never really had a go at beach detecting. Well long story short I got a phone call from him while waiting in line at a rollercoaster. Hey mate, I've found a gold coin, I'm not sure what a sovereign looks like do you? He said. Its got a guy riding a horse on it. I replied- no way, that's a sovereign. Well I cam home and there it was in all its glory.... Here is a picture.
They are still out there!! I think he's getting a beach detector now.

Well done. I reckon you should tell us which beach so we can decide who needs to cry a bit for missing it :-)

And that's precisely why you shouldn't lend your detector!

He needs to find nothing but ring-pulls for 8 months straight to balance the karma for that one.
Excellent work, bet he's grinning like a Cheshire Cat!

Last time I lent my detector to someone was to my cousin he found an 18k ring... The coin was found in a bedrock Crack and was not covered. He got the signal, pinpointed it and then saw it. I think it was meant to be.
