BTW I made a sovereign programme and found out UK half's and ozzy half's are different numbers? did anyone know that

No, did not know that....facinating stuff!
Are the numbers significantly different or reasonably close?
I know that the number for an Aussie half on my T2se is around 68 and the full sov is around 72 but this info will put a whole new spin on things!

Thanks for that "little piece of gold".....always good to know stuff like that.

From Wikipedia:

Composition
Current sovereigns are struck in the same 22 carat (91⅔%) Crown gold (11/12 gold and 1/12 copper) alloy as the first modern sovereigns of 1817.[13] Alloys are used to make gold coins harder and more durable, so they can resist scratches and dents during handling.

The only time there has been a deviation from this composition was in the production of early Australian sovereigns, which used silver as part of the alloy and in London sovereigns dated 1887, when an additional 1.25% silver was added in order to make the blanks softer for the new Joseph Boehm effigy of Queen Victoria. Consequently, 1887 London Mint sovereigns are more yellow in appearance than other London produced sovereigns. This additional silver affected the amount of copper in the coin, not, of course, its gold content. (Nineteenth century techniques of refining were not as advanced as today, and nineteenth century sovereigns became more accurate in terms of their gold weight as silver — which is often naturally combined with gold — was removed as an impurity from the "pure" gold used. Such minor inconsistencies would not affect either their numismatic or bullion value).

Thus if your English 1/2 sov is dated 1887 or the Aust ones are early mintage then with the silver content they may ring up very slightly different then the the ones with more copper in the alloy.

Another reason to code in a "fudge factor" when setting up programs. Also remember that a sov buried in ground a bit more mineralised then another find will also give a slightly different VDI. Differences in depth and EMI can also throw off the VDI. If setting up a program for a particular item (i.e. $1 & $2 or large silver) with the V3i I always allowed a fudge factor of about 5 on either side of the items VDI.

Hatter..I will not be melting any coins with any detail left on them.. just the slick ones and jewellery
MK..all those silvers are from all over the place .new ground and old ground. E trac gives a good clear reading on them:)
#8..they were a bit different on the e trac . British half 12:20 ozzy half (1860s) 12:26 and British full 12:31 ozzy full ??:??
Shilo..thanks for the info .my ozzy are 1862,63,64 and my British is 1883.I have made a few different programs and did allow a bit play.

Thanks for your comments guys...one day I will get some more gold lol

Had a play with the E trac today using 2 tone ferrous settings. Managed to get a few more coins that I have missed a lot of times with other detectors.
1881 sixpence ,1884 penny and the best was this one.. a very nice condition 1880 shilling.
Very happy with my Minelab:) and my shilling

lol ive been on a gold drought since way before I got my E-trac. I have full confidence the E-trac will hit it if its there;)
I am using the standard coil atm running auto+3 using minelab coin mode mostly but have had good success in two tone ferrous in trashy areas.
My Detech ultimate 13" coil should get here this week:)
