Something smells a bit fishy with hunt #34. 8 sinkers, 15 shell casings, lure, one goldie
and once again nothing old (except maybe the fish). One of the casings has a plastic outer which I haven't seen before.

Enjoyable hunting Iggy

The black bullet is a military 308 blank and looks unfired. You seem to be finding a lot of military bullet shells from recent 223 to old 303. Was the area a training ground or range??

Thanks Chrispy, There is two or three smaller calibre blanks to the left hided by bolt as well (in pic). The ones from up Timaru #21 & #22 may have been an old range???
But this last hunt I doubt it, but I guess you never know what went on back in the day. It was up the Waipori Gorge at an old picnic spot, junk every where, grass areas ripped to pieces by the hoons and a real booze up spot by the looks of it now.

Thanks Latch, I was heading somewhere else and had to change my plans at the last minute so thought I go up there for a quick look around. I hav'nt done any research on the area.

If you want to go out sometime let me know, should have a few Tuesday nights free coming up over the winter months.

P.S. It sure would be nice to see some of treasure hunter 'Latch's' finds in show and tell sometime. (not a very subtle hint I know)

Cheers Iggy.

The sun is shinning and nice day for a Sunday drive with the family down south, it just happens the F4 was still in the car from the other night. (what a coincidence). So hunt #35 begins. Stumbled onto a nice wee spot with potential, if I come back I must remember the mossy repellent, cause boy were they hungry.

NZ Pennies 2 x 1954 1952, Half 1947 1941, 1948 Florin, Britt Pennies 2 x 1921 1920,
One nice Britt Florin 1919 and a super worn Edward V11 3p, plus the usual misc.

Good luck out there diggers.

Tuesday night was cold and dark (as winter nights usually are). Perfect for hunt #36, which was my first real bush hunt, which produced some interesting finds and a couple of losses ( lost my 4th newly made probe [hardly need that in the bush]and lost power on my Pro Pointer, which promptly sent me searching for the car).

Best find I think, a piece of 'trench art'(may of course not have been made in the trenches), Ansonia Clock Co key,
buckle, castor, lead thing which may be just a sinker but it looks a bit different, possible fake 3p (exactly same size, probably a coincidence and I think it is alloy) I actually thought this was gold as it had quite a yellow colour to it and the way it glimmered though the mud under the light! grease gun end.

1903 Britt 6 pence, UK Pennies 1908 1921 1936 Halves 1912 1936,
NZ Pennies 2 X 1952 1946 1943, 1948 Florin.

Cheers Iggy

The results for hunt #37 are in and are as follows.
Couple of wall hung candle holders (in the most unlikely spot) would have been flash in there day and when fully intact.
Penny spill all five within a foot, shame they weren't silvers, which are proving quite elusive.
Toy gun, another sad pocket knife and the usual.
Keep those great finds coming fella's.

Thanks Foiled, It was @ a spot I have been to a few times before. More than happy with 7 silvers (personal best for me). Had a bit of a 'shocker' today on the new grounds, but that's the way it goes sometime though, still good fun. Tony did a lot better, watch this space for a debrief.

Debrief of hunt #40 for 2014, I had done quite a bit of research on this spot and had high hopes (which were soon to be shattered) A nice little old as picnic spot with lots of potential, all I seemed to pull were tabs, foil and bits of cans and boy were they deep! I spent most of the time down on the flats and I am sure there is some nectar there but just super deep. It looks as if it is all silted up with the floods over the years.

Time to check out how Tony was getting on a bit higher up on the hill.....one look on his face and I could tell he had something sweet. A nice 'Groat'................good job, it had a couple of small holes drilled in it for a chain. That's something you don't find everyday, plus he unearthed some nice silvers and other goodies.

Will be back again one day but will probably concentrate on the upper slopes next time(but you never know there could be sov just lying there down on the flats by the stream.

An enjoyable day out!

Hi Guys a round up of last three hunts goes as follows.

#41 Few old buckles off dont know what, flat button, small calendar showing just the one month of October 1975 on both sides, $1, 1962 Florin

...........................................................................................................................................................................................................
#42 was another enjoyable outing with fellow detectorist, Toy gun, clock bits, typeset, bit of pocket knife, $2.20 spendies, 1945 Sixpence

.......................................................................................................................................

#43 was a bit of a late one for a Sunday night ( you know how it goes, just one more and the time keeps slipping away)
Three silvers all in not great condition (as with the rest of the stuff, bit of the old coastal rust has got to them) 1933 Half Crown, 1934 Florin,
1945 Thrup, Salters improved spring balance plate, $6, two keys, a couple of 19?? Britt Pennies NZ 1942 Half, 4 x full Pennies. etc.
