Evening all, just a quick wee round up of an enjoyable hunt with Markrocooper tonight (nice to finally meet up with you Mark). Basically a site that had an old house on it... or at least it did this morning. Very small area with excavator and misc items covering about a third of it.
As expected lots and lots of nails, and general junk everywhere which made things challenging to say the least.
We were forced to move on when my pro pointer and lights died basically within seconds of one another........good thing as I think we were both getting sick of digging nails. Best find I think was the Bermuda triangle thing.
Happy hunting Iggy

Hey mate, the thing with the threaded base in the bottom left of your first photo, is a broken reigns guide from an old horse drawn buggy or cart..........cool!
I'm going to be down your way this weekend for a major hunting mission, staying with Tony. Would be cool to catch up if you have time.

Hi all went on a little road trip the other evening......but this trip was different would I be happy with an old penny, rusty nail or bottle top NO not any more I was after the good stuff.
As the k's rolled by and the townships disappeared in my rear mirror I started to have doubts...... When suddenly around the next bend .... No way it can't be.

UserPostedImage
On with the brakes and in a flash I was out on the side of the road ready to go blending in rather well I thought.

UserPostedImage
Wow double rainbow I had heard of them but.......mmmmmm
Yeah why not so off I went looking rather inconspicuous in search of the good stuff. Well as the sky got darker and the hills steeper tummy rumbling and ready to call it ......I finally reached the end of the rainbows, but which one to search I wonder?
A quick buzz around the first nothing then Within minutes of scanning the second I got a slamming hit!
Out with an array of picks and shovels three feet down and my heart jumped as I heard a thud.....

UserPostedImage
Unbelievable I know even I can't believe it but take a look at the nectar.

UserPostedImage
I'm still speechless but if you seek you shall find, definatly worth a revisit

PS thanks MW for the photo bucket info it's super easy even I managed it without help from my wife or teenagers
Only problem now I notice all my old post photos seem to have disappeared and need manually downloaded to view
Happy hunting everyone and please don't use wheelbarrows and picks Iggy

"Road trip with N8".... Awesome.
Unlike the road trip in my last post this would be real and actually happen! (Hope I didn't mislead anybody just wanted to see if this photo bucket thing would work)
The excitement of the upcoming event soon turned to panic as it dawned on me that I had to find somewhere worthy. Shouldn't be a problem I initially thought (talking to myself outloud).....but then a flashback of our last get together suddenly entered my mind. No way is that going to happen again, this time I needed to find some good ground and fast as the weekend was days away. After much thought and a brutal elimination process site W was chosen.

UserPostedImage

Saturday morning arrived and so did N8 we threw our gear in the van and off we went..... The day was a pearler, it took an hour or so to arrive at destination W and most of the way I was busy talking this place up and going on about its history, I had my fingers crossed it wasn't going to disappoint.

Pulled up, had a quick chat to a couple of locals and within minutes we were off swinging........ moments later.

UserPostedImage

Cool, bit of silver.....promising start. After lunch I thought I'd try the creek out for a change of scenery but soon aborted and went back to plan A.

Plenty of targets that's for sure, lots of junk as well.

UserPostedImage

I was amazed at how little N8 dug in the way of trash........ You can't beat experience !
I really was hopeful of a ring or some awesome old relic, but it wasn't to be.
Four coin spills for me.

UserPostedImage

Keep an eye out N8 pulled a couple of sweet finds.
The results after a lot of digging........
1 Florin 1 Shilling 8 Sixpence 8 thrups 3 UK pennies one half etc

UserPostedImage

A very enjoyable day out in the sun, great to catch up again N8. We will get the jewlery next time :)
Cheers Iggy

Hi all, I was working up in Central this week so took the F4 for a ride. Managed to get a couple of quick evening hunts in.

UserPostedImage

Both nights were very mild and I really should have stuck with it a bit longer.

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

Thought I would have pulled a couple of foreign coins, but I guess if I had spent more time swinging the coil I just may have.

Next hunt was a bit closer to home.

UserPostedImage

A wee bit of bush bashing produced the following.

UserPostedImage

Would have been a nice peice of jewlery when it was a bit younger and not buried.
Until next time good luck out there Iggy

Yes good fun in the bush, the vines start to take there toll after a while but if it was easy........
Yes one of Andrés scoops, great scoop (first I have owned used so can't compare to anything else)
I am having a bit of trouble in the murky shark infested waters locating targets but I guess practice practice and more practice. I am going to try a couple of plastic garden stakes to help pin point my targets.

I use my foot to mark the pinpoint location. By running the coil up the side of my foot it gives a fixed reference(metal free shoes obviously) , then sit the tip of the scoop on my toe to locate it, then pull foot away and drop the scoop onto the sand.
Drag it back a bit, depending on how deep the target is, then get stuck in.

I try and catch it in the first cut, especially in surf and loose substrate (eg gravels). In quiet waters/lake edges then you can be a little more refined.

Once you have the first cut, you can use that to pinpoint whether the target is in the trough, left or right wall and dig accordingly.

Bear in mind that still water holes don't readily fill themselves in and will remain for years sometimes. Take the time to try and reinstate as best you can.

try pinpointing your coil and move the scoop in from the back you can feel and hear when the scoop is in position right next to the coil it a good tech" when its murky.

Hi all just a quick wee update of a hunt a month back one evening up Central after work. Nothing too special that's for sure but that's how it goes at times...... Found lots of junk in the dried up lake but nothing good there at all.

Hello all went on a nice little stroll a week or so back in the Dunedin bushes.

UserPostedImage

Well stroll might be the wrong choice of words really....after moving on from the local ,?$&?,.' spot ( some interesting remains left behind here from the young ones let me assure you)

UserPostedImage

I traversed a couple...... Well best described as cliffs, to then find an old leather bag lurking under an old beach tree. Mmmmm bag empty, but I did unearth the three condom lids and the other lids/containers all in a two foot radius.

UserPostedImage

So it looks like a party of different sorts happened on the lower terraces at one time.

You seem to have good days- with me it's more of silver signal... Yes it's a ring... Aluminium. That's why I need the F2. Does the 11" help? I might think in waiting a little while more for the f4. If I save long enough I will be able to get the F2 in January. So i can use the f2s spendies and then get the F4.

Hi Lkd, I quite like the F4 you can cover a bit more ground with the bigger coil, and the adjustable ground balance is good. My father has got an F2 which I struggle to bond with but its probably just me. I do find the F4 loves foil, have you checked out the updated now called F22 and F44 they look pretty good. There is a lot of good entry level detectors out there, I'm sure others will have some suggestions.
Good luck Iggy

Yeah- the f22 looks really nice. Probably should get the f2 and use its spendies for the f4- then f22 and so on. Mudwingle has a nice deal but it's out of my budget for the current time.

Just bear in mind that you probably wont get all your money back each time you upgrade and you have to find a buyer on each of those occasions for your older machine.

What are you currently swinging?
