A wee evening hunt at the local sanded in beach a few nights ago, didn't give up much at all really.......... But I got out so all good :)

I did bump into a couple of guys, correction they bumped into me on my way back to the wheels. Being dark understandably we were all slightly unforthcoming with information........ Turns out they were weilding an F4 and Goldbug (which they had in there car) and they were heading for home after an evening hunt. Once realising they weren't on PD and never heard of it I thought it my duty to give some tips on digging techniques, where and where not to go etc. After a quick chat we headed for home, good to meet you guys- hope to see you on here soon:)

Note: the South Seas pics are from a book I have, just thought I'd add a bit of history- nothing to do with the hunts

Managed a sneaky wee 'family Sunday drive' as you do, just so happened when we arrived at 'my' chosen destination the tides were mint :)
After the tribe all had a bit of a swing, some holding on two handed style and complaining about sore arms, it was soon my turn :)
Nice wee spot with lots of potential only got about an hour of searching before it was time to roll.

I'd leave them as is - The clip has disappeared long ago, it's just the wad of resulting corrosion growth holding it together now.
Personally, I'd display it like that.

Are you able to find out what brand/date the clip is? Never know... Could've washed ashore from Gallipoli.

Near on impossible to check, but you never know. It was found in a tidal inlet. Along with most of our finds wouldn't it be amazing to trace there origins! I bet some would have travelled a truely unbelievable journey.

I'd start at a 5 round stripper clip for an Enfield and go from there....

Then go for most popularly deployed enfield: SMLE, then remember that during World War I they would use 7 instead of 5, so it would have to be from later or even earlier stages, then the only last thing we would need would be a look at the back of the casing. I think it is not worth it, as once the casing is out it will never be put back, so I'd leave as is. Looks like we could settle with it being from an Enfield.
Though it could be from a savage Enfield, made during WWI and was deployed over 1 million times, and took a five round clip.
I'm no expert on guns, but if that info is correct them we should know what the clip is from.

Also wondering if you have any clearer shots of that coin you couldn't I.D, just curious to see. Always fun reading about beach hunts, there is so much potential!

I haven't got any close ups (not 100 sure where I have even put it now) I dont think it's anything special initially thought maybe 5c or sixpence although looking at pic again colour indicates possible 2c had a good look under magnification but no markings.
Cheers Iggy

A good way to tell is too measure the coin with a micrometer. Then google the dimensions and metal type ie copper. This method works most of the time.

Hi fellow detector. Seems it was us you ran into the other night out detecting. Thanks for telling us about this site, its great. We are new to this as we told you, and wasnt expecting to much as we thought all those public places would have been detected out but we managed to find some really nice things which was quite a surprise, but nice. Nice to have meet you and hope we can catch up again some time

Hi guys the great thing about metal detecting is there is no such thing as 'hunted out' there is always something out there to find.
