Good finds Mickey. Keep working that area-the old Gordonia lid, the ring and that threepence point to an area where a bit of 'activity' took place. Whats the bet you get a few buttons/brooches etc there as well!
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

Snake buckle
[with both buckle attachments ]
Two separate digs, 1m apart, but no sign of leather attached.

The history of this thing is beyond me,
Some say 1860's in the US,
Others say 1880s-1930's in NZ.

I'd be interested to know,
if this was standard kit for the Auckland Mounted Rifle pre-WWI?
or,
standard kit for our constabulary up until WWII

Find site gave coin post-WWII only,
but methinks it's an older site than that.

THAT is just an awesome find Mickey, especially with both buckle attachments nearby. A very rare find indeed and one that is worthy of adding to and immediately ticking off, your detecting bucket list.....in my humble opinion. Good on you!

Top find there Mickey. Dont often see them with the strap attachments.
I have one too and i'm fairly sure it would be NZ WW1.

Note your one has a double snake head as mine has only one.
They were used as belt buckles and rifle sling buckles i'm sure.

Awsome detecting Mickey, I was interested in your Gordonia lid and as usual the great knowledge and investigating by #8. As mentioned well worth a thorough search around the immediate area. I didn't know what mine was at the time so just moved on to the next, and still slightly #^!!* for stabbing it with the Lesch.
Great posts Iggy

Coin placement

220 coins in one hole, including 40 silver, mostly pre-WW2.
dog-gone.

one in particular stands out.
i now understand how the high-rollers could flip a dollar coin in the air,
then shoot a hole clean through the middle of it.
a 40mm target. easy call.

happy hunting amigo.
