Welcome.
Please feel free to comment on any post.
Suggest alternative histories, or just say that you think the item is too good, too bad, too ugly,
and that I should try harder on the next hunt.

Rampant Lion Badge.
[ olde puss ]
Stamped 'Walker & Hall' on the back, so I guess it's jewellery?
Ceramic glaze hints at 1920's.
Would like to think it's Scottish, but everyone used said Lion on their regalia.
Could very well be Spanish.

Brass Spur.
[ giddy-up ]
Staying with cowboy theme here.
Probably from the tree-felling days out here 1880s-1920s.
In Europe they can't move for tripping over these things, never thought I'd find one here though.
Should I try to clean this? Soak in ammonia for a few hours?
Would like to get that spiked 'ouchy' bit working, but it looks like well rusted out iron.

1917 Florin.
[ surface find in steep bush ]
not 'gothic', but heading in the right direction.
Excuse me for plastering 'xp-deus' logo over the coin scans.
Can't think of a good enough reason not to.

Whistle.
[pip-pip ]
Silver plated brass by the looks of it.
Still gives a good loud whistle.

Snuff-bottle.
[snort ]
Well I guess it would have been snuff, but who knows.

Edward VII Half Crown 1908.
[ well worn ]

Opal ring / 9ct gold.
[ clear & unbroken 62 signal on the Deus, was either a pull-tab or a gold ring. ie. fluked. ]
Setting looks kind of old-school. No idea of age.
Has '9CT' stamp, and 'FISHER' stamp inside.

1937 Florin.
[ in 'reasonable' nick, for once. ]

Jujitsu.
[ ok, who lost this? ]
a bit too much 'yielding' going on there fella.
might have been second prize, but your partaking was appreciated.

925 silver ring.
( 8gm. blokey size)

1924, one franc.
[ had me ]
gold-like lustre showing through the dirt,
looked about the correct size and all,
could be ...
sadly, picking it up revealed that it weighed nothing.
made of aluminium-bronze.
well done 'chambers de commerce de france'.
'good for' fooling me once.

1974, NZ Insulators Ltd. Temuka. 500 Volt, 60 Amp.
[ not everyone's thing ]

copper + alloy token (?).
[ bad condition ]
the salt-laden sou'wester up here just finishes these things off.
any ID suggestions much appreciated.

shame on me.
the other penny sized coin/token,
found 6cm north of above thingy.
strangely enough,
has a minor defect that matches the shape of me digger.
bugger.

oval copper brooch.
[ prayer thingy ]
1940's ? from the other finds around.
nothing on the back, rusted-out brooch clip maybe.

More nice finds. The XP deaus must be great machine. Had a call yesterday from a foss mag fan who said he just got one, i think from you. He was very happy and had some top finds to go on his first couple of outings.

Have you heard of the foil trick? Just spit into a piece of foil & fold it over your coin, squeeze tight, you can hear it fizzing away & smells real bad, great for getting stubborn stains off.

925 'woven-band' silver ring.
[ has some unreadable hallmarks, 1950's-60's from location ]
thought it had been crushed, but shape is deliberate to fit finger.

1919 threepence.

'Gordonia' container.
[ aluminium ]

Nice group of finds there Mickey. The little aluminum tin is a condom tin from the early 1900's...possibly even earlier. Gordonia was one of the most commonly available brands in NZ at the time and I believe the condoms were made from processed pigs intestines!

thanks for the ID no8,
i did wonder what the 'silk-seamless' meant on other similar finds.
i guess it's what you'd expect lurking around in the bush.
again, ID greatness no8,
mickey.
