Lazy Sunday afternoon hunt with Erickd.
Cool old aluminum St Christopher medallion, two junker rings ( Gold one is only plated bugger!) and two Oz florins from the same hole...1917 & 1922.

Cheers Roy, I have done that before....lots of foil and bits of brass but always worth a dig coz as we know, GOLD can be in the 50's range.
Tony from Dunedin got a nice old 9ct signet ring on his T2 that came up as a solid 54. Since then, I've dug everything from 50 up....as long as it's not mega bouncy or crackly.
What settings do you generally run with on your T2? I mostly run sens 80 and discrim 48, with 2+ tones. If I get a faint deep target with high numbers in the 80's or 90's, I always check it with boost processor mode. This seems to help with clarification as to whether or not the target is deep iron or deep silver. Cheers mate.

hi andrew. i hardly do any land detecting the parks are so full of rubbish and have been landscaped with topsoil the only old coins you get are whats been brought in from elsewhere i only go after the dollar coins if the tides are not good so i set the disc at as much as 70 i always hunt in bp mode because it gets so dry you need all the depth you can get the t2 is not that deep in the other modes but in bp mode its deeper than the ctx 3030 witch is good with the target trace on but its slow,i can find more with the t2 witch has fast recovery speed, the other thing that puts me off is the mozzies any grass is full of them, at night you just get eaten alive, its almost as bad on the beaches at night but at least you wear something to cover up as its cooler, the only safe mozzie free place is in the water they dont seem to like that.i sometimes use the ctx with just the signals above iron but below pull tabs just to try and get the smaller gold rings but it puts small pieces of can slaw in that region i tried to use the conductive numbers to narrow it down some more it does in an air test but maybe with the soil being so mineralized it bouncers all over the place in the field, it would be fine in nz iam sure ,still working on a way to be accurate on gold, iam afraid ive got gold fever coins dont do it for me as much as they did.

Was a common and normal death in prospector new zealand. Hopefully I'm smarter (only going in straight, calm rivers, no rain clouds as far as the eye can see), better prepared (full wetsuit & swimfins), and I definitely have the fight to live (I've a grappling hook to rescue myself too!).

Had Friday afternoon off, so headed to "the spot" for a three hour hunt. Scored 16 silvers, a bunch of pennies and halves and very old alloy junk ring. Also dug a very old disintegrated leather wallet.....only my second ever wallet. As I opened it up, I thought that there must be more in it than the first one I found.........WRONG........the first had a sixpence and a threepence. ...was a bit gutted at the time with that. This time.....one threepence...really!?!
Still, can't complain. Stoked to finish up on 16 total for the afternoon!

Morning hunt with Erickd at the spot. Pretty happy actually with my 10 silvers considering how hard it is becoming there now.
Also, a cool old junker ring and the usual pennies and halves.

Cheers Roy, funny you should say that about the rings. Just made a comment on the FB page saying that I've had six rings out of there...two modernish silver and four junkers. Erickd has had about the same number but three have been 9CT Gold!
It's been near on 2 years since I dug a gold ring....reckon I'm about due for one soon...lol.

Had a fun day out and around the hills of Chch with Erickd.
Here's my best find for the day.....a Returned Services badge complete with pin from "the spot".
Also couple of very cool old lead bullets found up on the Port Hills.

Ok...got a hit on a name from the service number BUT it doesn't seem to fit. The young man was a pilot according to the record....but he died in 1940 aged 19!
No other record for this number. Case closed I guess......
