Hi all, I'm keen, I'm a very new member with no gear or experience at this stage. Keen to learn how you guys do it. Can supply lots of enthusiasm and would be pretty good on a shovel!

Depending on the location of the main activities of the get together, a good spot to camp is along the Clutha river about 1km up the millenium track, turn right b4 the bridge. There is room for plenty, the Beaumont hotel is not a bad place to stay and get a feed also.

Hi Fivestar gold
White baiting in the haast sounds great, great area. Most creeks in the area show signs of gold i have panned in the haast river it self and have found colour also most of the black sand beaches have gold on the as well hope that helps.

Hey Cavey
Thanks for that info it will help me a great deal, but it also could be a little dangerous cause ill have whitebait net in one hand and gold pan in other and my fellow whitebaiting mates might get a little peaved if i dont pull my wieght if you know what i mean.

Thanks for the stir along Fivestar Gold I get a little off track at times

The weekend get together will be on the 1st weekend in November 2nd - 4th
Cabins and sites are available at Goldfields camping ground 03 485-9850 http://www.lawrence.co.n...-48/Gold-Park-Motor-camp
Cabins about $25 and bring your own bedding
There are only 12 cabins so the early birds will get them
Another option is the Prospector , I think he said $65 . Don't have contact details, but should be on the Lawrence website below
There are other options available and if you go to the Lawrence's information Website http://www.lawrence.co.nz/ you should be able to find something suitable

A rough programme at this stage is,
Fri night we will have a guest speaker giving us the history of the Gold Fields and time to get to know each other over a few cold ones
Sat Morn head out to a couple of locations
Bar B Q lunch ( Supplied)
May go to another location in the afternoon
I’m trying to arrange a group meal for the Saturday night and have a couple of options at this stage.
At some stage I would like to look at the different ways of refining the concentrates ,so if any of you have a special method, blue bowl, underflow sluice, millers table etc. bring them with you
Would also like to sneak in another guest speaker at some stage and also time for the suppliers (3 so far) to showcase their products.
Sunday morning out to another location and then we will finish off the weekend with a group sing-a-long in the afternoon (Just kidding) or am I?

But before everything can be finalized, it’s going to be essential to know how many are coming and I would need to know definite numbers by early October
So once you have decided and have made your accommodation arrangements, could you please let me know by PM and also what gear you will be bringing. If there are a few small dredges and high bankers, that will determine which locations we visit
Also there will be small fee to pay for Saturdays Bar B Q and evening meal and I thought it appropriate to give the landowners a small gift for allowing us onto their property.
I’m thinking $50 should cover it.

I’m hoping to send out a group email to all members shortly, but you regular visitors to the site will get first dibs on the cheaper accommodation. So get in early
I’ll give another update closer to the time.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for sorting out what looks to be a good event. Good on ya for putting in the effort.

I've marked it in my calendar. Looking forward to it!

Got a sleeping platform in the back of my truck so accommodation's no prob for me :) Still might join you all in the motor camp if there's a good gang around.

Cheers,
Gavin

Aye sounds great look forward to it, some of us may be traveling by way of thumb so is there a car pooling option for the activities during the day? The camp ground has tent sites for $12 pp per night which will be the option I will be taking.

My wife and I would be more than happy to give you a lift, we would be taking the cheapest accomodation option also. I'll work out the details with you closer to the time.
