Shot down to little hagley straight from work. Only managed an hour or so before more rain.
Met Hunter down there also. I dug a heap of trash trying to score something alas only dug a 2c a 10c a pair of hospital forceps? looking things and managed just one silver, an 1891 sixpence. I expect more now after md'ng for two months! lol

Yeah I think we all can understand the expectation of good finds. :-)

Don't think those are hospital forceps, blacksmiths maybe?

Thanks Mk and roy, yea I dont think hospital grade..and did have a chuckle when I read the first line 'I think they're skirt lifters..' hoho then read the rest and yea makes sense! They are just made of copper by the looks and one of the handles is broken off so no silver and did check around to see if there was more. I have a real silver thing and wanna find heaps! And dreams of gold and diamond rings! And just anything gold!

Skirt lifter sounds great..
Thats a mighty fine victorian silver you fossicked there. They dont come easily and i would class that as an above average to a very rare excellant find.
When i found me first GOLD (ring) i was estatic to say the least. After that! i needed a neche, not an ultimate target. This put things in perspective as i started to enjoy everything about and around my favorite find/findings. The history, the planning, the documentation. Six pre 1900 silver coins later im now just starting to really enjoy the whole concept of a healthy addiction.
Those big finds will come, to you and me both and all... and when they show its an added bonus, dribble dribble. HH

Thanks Shane. Thats exactly how I have become too. As you find things you get very interested in finding out all about them and that definitely defines the addiction for me! History coming alive in the flesh so to speak.
Im confident (optimistic) and infact said to Hunter last night, with the amount of time spent scanning the ground one of us is gunna come up with a serious piece of gold (sovereign etc) soon enough! (long as its there to be found!
Its been great finding this forum and sharing stuff with like minded people-great for opinions and fact finding on the unusual things we dig!

Righto, hello again ladies and gentlemen.
Went to south hagley with nzpoohbear for a little hunt before (and including some) dark-if anyone needs sprigs this winter please contact us!---but we did manage a sixpence each!

Today went to a park used in war times as a rifle range-if anyone needs shells and live bullets let me know :-P
Only found a 1916 penny of note. Oh and a watch wich may be miltary-its definitely not going to work anymore tho!

Tonight went to little hagley for 3 hours. Had a possum and her little one watching me from the trees..
Within 10 seconds found a souvenir of the 1901 visit by duke n duchess of Cornwall--sweeet!
Then pretty quiet lol. Did manage two silvers though, and the 1942 threepence is in awesome condition (after cloudy ammonia!)
It has a 'kc' above the date-is that common? Is it the mint mark?

Well had my day off today so thought Halswell Domain would be worth a look. Didnt do any good whatsoever so decided on good old south hagley park.
First find was a WW1? New zealand Forces button with 'JR Cau????? London' on the back.
Then happened to find an old leather wallet/purse buried down with about 11 coins in it. Mostly 50's copper pennies, 6p,3d but one silver threepence. Some of the coins had paper stuck to them and one had the legible remains nof an old banknote-now that woulda been cool if the note(s) had been in tack, even tho the loot was modernish.
Found a 1912 + 1922 pennys stuck together in a hole.
Best find was my first gothic florin 1915. Thought it was a crown when first exposed (still looking..)
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

Cheers guys, yea i love the look of the paper stuck to the coin..needs a box!

Went out tonight and met Hunter for a little night hunt at Cranmer.

I found 2 silvers--a 1922 Australian threepence--unfortunatley not a 1922 overstamped as 1921..theyre worth around $150,000!! (source wiki lol)..and 1925 british 3d.

A mini brick with L Adams stamped. Did a google and found a little history..apparently made from 1850 ish for kids(old time Lego!)

A pretty old 1874 penny etc and $3.20 for an icecream hoho!
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

Your button will be made by Gaunt - they made many of the British Military buttons.

The marking will be J.R.Gaunt & Son Ltd * London*

Well, out last night (and tonight with high hopes!) to a part of South Hagley. Started off pretty good with a threepence within a few minutes then leaner times with a few pennies. As Oroplata posted, he joined Hunter and I and walking towards us found a spill of silvers! Super well done!
Towards the end found a slightly damaged Girl Guides pin and then a very nice ring with great weight, however no marks but I'm sure it must be silver.

So yes, went back to same spot last night.
I parked the car, stepped over the fence, lowered the detector, turned it on, waved it and not a metre from the car dug a silver! Just a .500 1960 Aussie sixpence but wow what a start! Problem was that was it apart from a 1912 h'penny and some crazy dice thing with a mirror on the top...

Time for a hunt in a new spot of Hagley tonight!
