Nice going. Thats some field. Ive found 11 silvers in 6 months.. And only 3 pennys at my not so secretive spot.. Speaking of secrete spots, one of the owners saw me at mine yesterday and approached me. "wot have you lost'' he asks. We chatted, he raminded me that i was on private land. Told me some history dating back 60 years and gave me the go ahead to continue fossicking. All good. A lesson there for me.

Yes i did. Took me down a knotch in the learning curve. Im starting to think that not many would say no if one was to ask. There would be a 99% curiosity rate to start which is the biggest bonus. Land is either council/DOC or private. Wont go there..Go ahead and ask Gnut. Youll be surprised and comforted in the fact that you succured your special fossicking spot/spots.

I have asked permission a few times now with mixed results.

4 x OK's no problem.
1 x no!
1 x too many layers of management to get an answer
1 x asked 3 times now over a 9 month period and got weak excuses every time that really just meant no.

It's like anything else - win some loose some.

yeah can be like that ae...sometimes common courtesy will go a long way, especially with teh older type owners

I have a theory, if you're finding pennies (large coppers) then there will be small (or) large silvers there also. I have hit this field maybe 50 times, and had silvers every time...it's easy to miss a spot it seems. Today I went there and again found one silver shilling some pennies etc (pic to come below) and thats after a really good rain...all coins scream louder when moisture is around them.

Cheers
Dan

haha thanks man yeah sculled a 500ml can of V before I started...naa seriously tho this field has been really really good to me and other detectorists that have hunted it...I'd estimate 250 silver coins have come from here that I know of...about 165 of them have been with my F2

still gives me a good "chubby" to find lots of nice silvers...gold too but i've only had the one gold from this spot

Cheers
Dan

Im fairly sure that my site only has a 60 year history hence the lack of silver. Did find a 1934 and 1939 3p and a 1958 penny. So 205 coins there, 2 were silver, 1 penny and 2 half pennys. Alot of the coins are foreign as this spot was a hostel once upon a time. So that makes it a little more interesting.
