I have been hitting the inner city of Christchurch with some nice results.. I plan on doing another hunt this weekend if the weather (and wife) lets me..

I am not sure if this link will work, but I made the following video of three of my hunts:

sorry about that man.. My camera is acting up and I only had footage of you as we were by the car and in the living room, - everyone else was wiped out. Thought it would confuse everyone if you disappeared.

Thanks..
No, its not inside the boundary.. I only hunted on the outside of it.. Some of the parks in the city are as old as the city itself.. They appear to have been hit by other detectors, but I am still able to find the deeper ones for some reason with my detector..

All good fun.. I might hit the city again this weekend if are you keen to come along..

Sounds great! Now the question is where? We could hit the park where I filmed that Christchurch City hunt.. Its been hit hard already, but as you can see, its still giving out silver..

I can only hunt in the early morning, but you guys can obviously continue hunting after I leave.. I will probably be getting to the park around 530am and will be hunting with headlamp until sun comes up.. I will have to head home at around 730am.

We will have to be careful and make sure to dig nice plugs, as we do not want to scare people or give ourselves a bad image..

The metal detector gang!!

I will be at Cranmer Square

Hahaha.. yea, Sorry.. I start early because I have to be back home to do stuff with wife and kids..

By all means, you do not have to be there that early.. Could show up later on and continue hunting after I leave.. No worries..

Its painful getting up that early, but once I pull up a silver my blood starts pumping.. The park is also dead quiet that time in the morning, so there are no people around to slow us down..

If that is too early, I will probably be able to get time off in the afternoon or evening later on this month.. The sun is out later now, so a late afternoon/early evening hunt could also be on the agenda..

That line and especially the word "image" made me think . . .
I've heard of a few Nth Island metal detecting clubs, and wonder if there is any in Christchurch/Canterbury already?
If not, is there any interest here in forming one?

Anyway, a 5am rise and half-hour/half-asleep drive into town sounds fun ^^ !

Well if tomorrow's weather's anything like it is right now, I'll be staying indoors and dreaming of hitting the beach with my monster deep searching coil, when my container finally shows up.

Yea, weather is not looking the best right now.. If it doesn't clear up soon, we will be in for a muddy experience..

I would suggest for anyone thinking of doing the morning hunt to sleep in if its still wet tomorrow morning..

I am going to see what the weather is doing tonight, and from that will decide my plans.

Sigh.. I really want to get out and hunt!!

Will post later tonight.

I am starting to see small patches of blue in the sky..

Unless it starts raining again during the night, I will arrive at Cranmer Square (small park just east of Hagley Park) between 530 and 6am tomorrow morning (closer to 530am).. Will hunt it till 740am or so..

If I wake up at 5am and its raining, then I will crawl back in to my warm bed..

Anyone is welcome to join along.

The park has provided me silver on each of my visit.. Usually two or three items each time..

Have not found gold there yet, but plan on finding a gold sovereign tomorrow.

It's only a tiny park. You can stand anywhere on it and see all of it - big old trees around the perimeter and nothing but a union-jack path network laid out on it.

If he's there, you'd see him - even if it's still dark since he wears a beacon on his forehead :)

Did you get any silver Karl? How deep are all the shillings? :)
