Thanks guys.

Went out yesterday evening and found a couple of interesting things, then stayed up way to late trying to figure out what they were. The one coin looking thing threw me because it looked like a coin, but turned out to be a copy of a coin.

Had a good and bad day hunting silvers; good in that I found 5 silver coins, including two florins in the same hole. Bad in that because the two florins were in the same hole I gouged one of them badly having pinpointed the other.

Was out hunting with NZPoohBear yesterday and dug this up. Did a bit of a search on the internet which said:

"Mounted to the Uniforms shoulder Straps to indicate rank. The “pip” or rank indicator for Officers is based on the Star of the Military Division of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath. Three Joined as One: It refers to the union of England, Scotland and Ireland to become the United Kingdom."

I believe it is from WW2 because it has parachutes instead of crowns. Anyway, it was a nice to find something besides 1 and 2 cents once in a while.

Yep that IS cool .....I hate those 1c and 2c pieces....especially if they are near the surface and seem like a goldie. Although deep ones can be a pain too without a pinpointer. Spending 5 to 10 minutes on a hole for 1 or 2 cents isn't much fun. :)

Yeah it was good meeting you too Dan. The 'pip' came from Methven before we got to you home turf, but we found some good stuff there too. We will have to get together again.

...only too find that theres actually another 4 or 5 of them in the same hole thus spending another 5-10 mins.

You guys down south seem to find a lot of militaria type treasures. Understandable given the history of the area. Nice find Rgmcbrid.

Last week I found my oldest coin, an 1843 half farthing. Then I lost it in my shack somewhere and couldn’t find it. I hunted everywhere. I thought I might have accidently thrown it in my tub of one and two cents and spent about an hour sifting through the top of the heap. I found a 1970’s British half penny and some other odds and ends mixed in but no half farthing. Then yesterday I was vacuuming and heard something banging around in the brush and I was excited to find the half farthing all over again! Lucky it didn’t get sucked up.

Thanks Shane. Kind of a thrill to find old stuff, even if it a half of a half of a half penny.

Robert = I think you will find that the left hand item is a Jews Harp - I am not 100% certain but certain enough to be sure of winning a bet on it!

I havent seen you guy yet - I thought you would have been down ages ago - I will be in Rakaia this weekend - bother it all - might drown my sorrows by taking a run up to Mt Somers!

If it is a Jews harp then you can learn to play it and strike up a tune!
