Hi Everyone -
I have only just got my first detector a few weeks ago - AT-Pro. Still getting the hang of it (might take some time me thinks ;) - it's a big learning curve hearing all those beeps and bleeps :) Anyway, I just wanted to share my finds over my first two weeks out and about with the ATP. I know it's not much but, I'm excited for what might be next?

What a great start to the hobby for you. Possibly Silver coins and a token.

Well done.

Epic bunch of first finds there Samash.
Love the Lloyds newspaper token....is it stamped into the back of an old penny, or is it a proper Lloyds token?
I'm sure I read somewhere that the older, worn pennies were counterstamped by Lloyds newspaper to use as purchasing tokens in the British colonies.

Thanks heaps - I'm super happy as I was not really expecting to find anything for months apart from bottle caps and pull tabs. I had spent hours watching YouTube AT-Pro videos so I think that has helped :)

Hi number8wire - that Lloyds token must be the real thing as it’s super heavy and larger than a penny. It doesn’t seem to have anything in the back. It blew my ears off at a 88 to 91 and was reading 25+cm (I have the ATP international) – I was only out for an hour today and found that as I was leaving for home – just one more dig! It’s so hard to stop ^__^

Check the dates on the older nz coins like the shillings, florens and such, if they are before 1946 they will be %50 silver.

Think you've sussed the ATP out!! Is that 1871 a penny or a half penny? That date is one of the hardest years to find in the bronze pennys of the 19th century...awesome first week man!

Thanks for the tip :) All the silver ones so far are before 1946 apart from one of the 3ds

Thanks so much - but, I hate to think how much I have left behind thinking it was trash ;) - The 1871 is a full size one penny.

Thanks Roy - I had know idea what it was until I got home a looked it up. It's twice the thickness of a normal penny and heavy.

Today I got out for a few hours back at the spot where I found that 1871 penny and the old token.

I was super excited as I thought I had hit another token :) but, I'm not sure what it is? coin maybe? it's heavy and twice as thick as a penny and larger.
Not much detail on it as you can see. I can make out a X, Y, O(or C), K on the outer ring and can just make out some numbers 4, 5 (might be an 8) but that's it.

No silver coins at all today but, I did find a silver ring 14 inches down under a large tree root - stamped 925 ^___^

Could you possibly have one of these?
Cartwheel

I think the coin in the pic is upside down, but the size in relation to a standard penny is about right.

Getting some good stuff there! Pocket watch (in any state) still eludes me....

Mate, if you're pulling cartwheels after only a couple of weeks, I reckon you've got some awesome post material coming up!!!

Check the possible cartwheel against the Lloyds token - diameter and thickness.
Cartwheel should be 36mm x 3mm

Rather envious actually, and looking forward to seeing what comes up next... You've got a good patch there.

If you have the time digging all your identified targets means you will not miss anything, sure it takes more time and you might be digging up more trash but certain things can sound like others if they have been in the ground for a while. For example spendable coins can end up sounding like those aluminium backed tabs on juice bottles. If your at a house site roofing nails can sound like coins or iron can sound like gold.

Certainly looks like a cartwheel with the rim around it, lucky bugger I haven't hit the 1700s yet.
Keep the posts coming and clean the area out, maybe a Sovereign hiding there.
