Yea but sadly for us the NZ$ is climing against the US$ and keeps it more or less the same all the time. Few years ago 1620 US would have been close to $3000 NZD an ounce now that would be cool! But 1620 still makes it around 1900 which is great and id be out there too if i could be,
good luck!
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

$1850 nzd at the mo....one thing to keep in mind when selling is that spot price is always at least 10%-20% ...less than what you see on on the net...

One good thing about gold is if you think the exchange rate is going to go in your favour later, you can just hang onto the gold until it get to where you decide it's worth cashing out.

That's really the magic thing about gold - it has retained it's value over thousands of years. Silver too, of course.

Board members that are buying will probably give you a deal closer to spot.

yes the nzd is somewhat hitched to the aus and both have a very close correlation to the gold price, the us is not only broke and has no gold reserves left but uk and europe are broke too. you think they would have learnt from history before they started prininting money, germany, argentina, japan, zim. i guess its there time to pay, remember the nzd is not high the other joke currencies are just low.

i saw a programe on the relative value of gold since the egyptians and they say gold sould be between $2000 and $4000 usd, ie highs and lows, so maybe it has a lot more room to go.

all we need now is the govt to open up all land in nz to a general miners right, and there would be near full employment. for some reason i think someone on this forum would disagree with that last rant!

starfish,

that would be the dream - being able to rock on down to the post office and hand over some coin to instantly get a license to roll.

on the flipside if this happened i think you would be right. everyone would be out there. with the stupidity and lack of safety i think we would be seeing bodies floating down the river again in these parts like in the original rushes. the books all mention foul play. i reckon a good deal were prob just stoopid and fell/got whacked by rockfall etc. went out the other day with a mate and had a few near misses with him. its amazing the gold fever seems to let safety of any sort slip out the window. even worse when things are icey.

here's to gold going up some more.

i was watching gold rush. interesting to hear all the gold found by man over the last 5000 years would result in a block 22 yards square!

Trying to understand international monetary policies makes my head hurt.I may have mentioned this before but how the hell does a duck farting in Argentina affect the price of cheese here? Maybe Im just a bit thick lol!

Apologies to Argentinian ducks but I hope spot keeps going up.

There are a few bodies floating down creeks I wouldnt shed a tear for either... Darwin had a point (",)

I was reading somewhere that some experts expect gold to hit $5000 an ounce within the next 5 years.

I think by then, I'll be full time in the hills :)

That's $US an ounce. The way the Kiwi keeps going up, it'll still be worth the same in $NZ as it is now.

Specially if you only have half, if any day job.. Earning a living without a claim of some sort sounds like a real mission. Im keen to go right now but not everything adds up yet. For a start, i think that you are only allowed to move 1 cubic meter of rock/sand etc Per day. Your either on DOC land or private land. Leaving commitments and loved ones behind. Issues like these are just some of the things i guess. Wow that gold price is getting sharper and sharper..

Done that. In the process of fitting the camper out with a solar panel. I guess I got to bite the bullet soon and buy a decent detector. Probably go for a new Xterra 4000, and buy in Auckland. Couple more months and heading south.^^

The Kiwi's just shown how unstable it is. When/ if it craters at some point, the NZ dollar price of gold will go ballistic.
