I'm guessing, by your muted tone, that it was found by someone other than yourself.

hi gjj
yea you are right there, pity I could do with my shorts falling down with the weight of gold in my pockets

just 3 hours walk from the carpark , found with a detector and its friends were in the same area and the size of cornflakes. just waiting for the rivers to go down and to stop raining

Id definatly be keen. Even though the last labour weekend trip was wet it was still a fun time and a good chance to meet other like minded people. And I still came away with a bit of colour. Where were you thinking of heading and when?

I would be keen, be difficult to get a group together though, this forum has taken a dip in activity lately for some reason. A weekend up the 12mile would produce color all round, plus can camp out there!

Hopfully some fellow gold diggers get that itch to join in, addictive feeling seeing colour in ya pan

That's just the thing this forum needs, a big weekend out, beers, BBQ, gold and those keen enough can go bag a deer too. Well I'll be keen were ever it is.

Your right though, last couple of years were quite informative on here.. I would like to think everyone's out digging instead lately.

Hi Gav,

I think there's a few reasons why gold has declined on here....
1. too many lurkers.
2. not enough input, prob cos of above, and also because of previous abuse that flew about on the forum and in private PMs.
3. gold price has declined and some have lost interest.
4. the forum was hijacked by coin/relic diggers.
5. broadcasting to the world on an open forum tends to see your gold success go belly up.

the forum was good to initially met new people in the area but around here at least its a small community. no one wants to piss the rest off by offering up locations for all to plunder. it takes a while to find such good spots and telling all gets you no mates.

personally i have found the info to be a hit with many amateurs, esp foreign ones. more and more come over for an easy holiday plundering the country (not just gold but half assed camping and making associated mess). would love to know how many countries you could visit and do this without permits etc. because they are visitors many seem to behave like holidaying fisherman and don't give a toss about any rules. the best are the ones that leave more mess behind than the original miners in the rush. once long gone the mess makes us locals look bad and ultimately stuffs it for us down the track with further restrictions.

don't get me wrong. i still love showing people about. the ones that are already here. just don't like exciting more numbers to come over as its already busy enough and we all know gold doesn't grow back.

Simon.

Hi Simon, Would you care elaborate on your point 4 please? I really don't understand your logic with this comment considering this forum as a whole, is for all associated "metal detecting" forms.

Us so called "Hijackers" as you put it are just as passionate about our coin and relic hunting as you guys are about getting the gold.
I coin and relic hunt because I love history and saving lost history from decay. I am not driven by any monetary gain. I do what I do because, as I said, I love history.
I think your use of the word "hijacker" is a little harsh. In my humble opinion, many of those (not all, I realise this) who seek gold are just profit driven and have no "passion" for what it represents, other than the monetary gain associated with it.
Gold price declines......interest declines....simple as that.
Passion for history is forever....and that's why I'm here and why I feel it so important to share historic finds (amongst others) with those interested.
Incidentally, I totally agree with your first three points, especially number one....waaaay too many lurkers.

Point 4 the logic is simple if you go way back in the forum history it was all gold posts then someone posted non gold finds which are a lot essayer to come by than gold especially for people that live in areas were there isn't any also far more detectorists out there looking for other stuff than those looking for gold and every now and again a member would post a pic or gold story and within an hour or 2 the post would smothered by other posts of sinkers, pull tabs...toys! etc etc ....forgone conclusion
Also i think you will find the price may have come back but not the interest simply look on the permit map and look at all the new claims going in .

I was lucky enough to be invited out by whom I consider Paydirts Gurus. One a Goldie one a Detectorist both of which I have remained friends with....Both now have nothing to do with the forum due to upstarts and idiots who seem to develop what I term "Screen Bravery" as in I'm not face to face and have magically grown a pair. End result is a loss of wisdom as people think why should I help people like that. Personal attacks and threats usually don't reflect well on ones intellect.

Just because you want to get something off your chest doesn't mean you should, especially when it comes at the expense of others.

I'm surprised that there are such strong feelings from both sides of the fence in fact I'm surprised there is even a fence when the two hobbies go so well together. After all at the end of the day both sides are pretty happy to find gold are they not?

I see it as if it wasn't for Gold this forum may well not be in existence. If it wasn't for the Detectorists " I think it would have gone stale a long time ago. In fairness most of you Goldies are older and to quote another forum Legend "Might well wake up dead tomorrow". Really that could be any of us so..... how about if you don't like the stories get off your rear-end and go make some new ones!!!

We are all grown ups, If you don't want to read something don't.

For those of you who only read the last line or two - Play nice, & Good luck out there. Lots of typos all add character *8^)

As always Guardian, you make so much sense.
I too miss the input of Tonznz and Lammerlaw's words of wisdom but can fully understand why they pulled the pin............our loss. :(

Yeah I would love some clarification on this point (4) as well -

Its obvious to me some of the prospectors around here have their panties in a bunch & if they feel their site has been hijacked by a group with similar interests, then they only have themselves to blame - All I here from this group is how they are going to punch people out, who are on their claim & how everyone else with a metal detector is as incompetent as they are, when it comes to this hobby - The ignorance displayed by the biggest whingers around here is at minimum ... a joke

Angry little feckers - perhaps the bush is the best place for them -

Thankfully if it wasn't for the coin/relic/gold detectorist's around here there would be nothing worth reading -

Yes its that simple Simon

"if you need to argue like imature kids start your own post and keep the bull s$#@ out of other peoples"

Who is this directed at?

No Bullshite here man - Simply asking for clarification & posting my opinion .........

You want a get together? - Knock yourself out

I have stated my intentions for a get together - Might be a bit of fun - Do you guys fill in your holes?

For the record this thread started turning to cr@p around post #4 (now I couldn't tell you if they are a gold digger or a coin/relic hunter) - however they seem distraught & angry about something - I doubt whether a BBq or a beer would bring them right -
