Post your oldest coin find or token find. I want to know what's the oldest anyone has found.

I definately dont have the oldest. I have a 1837 token and a 186? penny. That's the best I can do.

I think I recall one 17?? coin found by someone a while back.

What's the oldest here on the forum???

George III "Bullhead" penny, very bad condition but the shape of old George's head makes it fairly obvious plus it is slightly larger then a normal penny (but smaller then a cartwheel). They only minted these coins for three years: 1806-1808 so despite not being able to make out a date this is defiantly my oldest coin.

Interestingly it was found in the dry sand after it had weathered out from a sand bank on Waiheke. The beach was only populated in the 1860's on so it was an old coin when it was lost. Pic of it as found & before cleaning:

I am sure there has been a few Cartwheels found? Would love to break into the 1700's!

Wewll you both beat me! That sure is an old coin Shilo! I wonder how many like that get biffed out without looking for things like the shape of the monarchs head!

What's everyone else got?

Thats an early florin....would have been nice to get one of those!

Your East India Trading Co. one cent piece reminds me that I found an old chinese coin that I think predated all my nz/english coins. I must check again.

Oldest coin so far is an 1807 half penny from South Hagley. I found this one with a coin spill of seven half pennies, all early but this was the earliest.
Oldest silver (Hagley again) is an 1821 George IV shilling.
The oldest coin I've witnessed being dug from Hagley, was a 1799 Cartwheel penny.

Just did a bit of research on a foreign silver coin that I found when down in Dunedin a couple of weeks back while out hunting with tonznz. Turns out it's of Turkish origin and the date is 1223 on the Islamic calandar. This date apparently translates into 1808 on the Gregorian calandar....officially making this coin my oldest silver!

***Just found out that I've been dealt some crap info. The coin actually dates to 1876, so not my oldest silver...:(***

Edited by user Wednesday, 30 October 2013 2:01:26 PM(UTC)  | Reason: Correct date translation found

I bet you'll find some great stuff in there Goldhanded. Theres not that many totally submersible salt water hunters on here. I can only think of one other offhand. You'll have to keep us informed on what you find.
I want to see some old coins!

Yup, keep showing them! Even if your oldest is not that old - put them up here as it is interesting to see what everybody is digging.

Sad to imagine but in another 100 years there will probably be 2 mates out coin hunting with one of the mates saying " See that small rust patch on the soil? That's a 2013 50c piece!!!"

1813. It was described as an 1813 dump rather than a holey dollar tho.
