this creek was famous for its gold the gorge is very steep and the old timers called it ladder gorge because they all used rope ladders to get in and out had a great time pulling small flakes out of rock creaks the biggest was just over 2grms
no easy to get to but worth the time
once id I will tell more of how to get there

Wow! look at that area and the beautiful sky! Would have been a cracker day that day in there! I have no idea where it is but do recall reading about a "ladder gorge" somewhere in my books.

And here I was thinking it would be somewhere in your backyard, on a rare fine day just to throw us off the track.

ok its the slate I got the gold from moonlight flat . a good 4wd to the top of the hill then a 200m descent to the flat (which you have to walk) saw sum big trout in the pool at the top end of the flat as well as goats not in the river plenty of pig sign as well there is a tunnel going through the hill
try reading "bainham a history" by carol dawber a history of the area and the store sells great coffee and scones for lunch (don't know how I know that as I was meant to be working)

fantastic river for snipping

went up the salisbury as well

how bout someone else having a go

no
it was carved through solid rock and we couldn't figure out why the old timers did it maybe to dam the river and divert the river through the tunnel. sam as they did on the shotover river

Hi Jamie, I'm from the bay myself. Good luck today going up the slate, please post if a have a good find. I've been trying to find somewhere over those ways to get decent colour in the pan because the public fossicking areas aren't good.
