Cool finds. Specially the gold pencil thingy.

Gothic florins have the date as part of the numerals around the circumference from memory.
Takes a bit of working out.

Have found a very interesting 1916 Half penny, at first I thought it was a foreign silver, number 76 on the gold bug...not an un reasonable number for a half penny or a silver. Found in the Dunedin bush in a spot where I am finding similar aged pennies but not many old silver, most being 1933 on, the oldest 3d 1922. The half penny cleaned up quite nice in the cloudy ammonia. I'm thinking it could be somebodys experiment in silver plating...but looking at the wire cutter/plier cut mark, it seems to be solid silver! The surface is not very smooth on the head side and looks like it could have been cast? Has me stumped! It is the same size as a regular 1/2d, but not as thick which could be wear, not sure on weight I will have to compare, edge is smooth with no type of seam or any other sign of forgery......any ideas? Compared the weight to regular 1/2d and seem about the same on my dodgy scales to be roughly 5gram, so thinking it be coated :/

Could have been silver plated after the surface marks were made perhaps.
The weight will be a good clue.

When I went to school we used to silver plate half pennies and pass them over at half time at the pictures on a Saturday night for a shilling when we were buying an ice cream or a drink.

Great find Sean, will be very interesting to see what the weight comes in at......could be quite unique if it's solid.

Hi the half penny seems to weigh about the same as several others of similar wear that I compared it to, and was roughly 5 gram using my dodgy scales, so it seem likely to be plated....oh well....it is still going into my collection for sure :)

some recent finds from the Dunedin bush :) Motorbike badge, gold cufflink, silver earring, button with what looks like a cannon? Butterfly broach and a silver metal broach with ducks? NZ Army hat badge? and a cross badge with BKS on it, not sure what that means.
