I am persevering with my local park, covering ground already hunted with the X-terra30, the ace 250 found me a beautiful Victorian brooch? missing it's pin and mounts no stamp so not sure of gold content or what the stones are but they look like garnet. Also of interest is an 1861 Italian coin the same size as a nz half penny found at Tonys spot, which I have photographed upsidedown, and a silver looking thimble, it has serial numbers that I can just make out and will research this later. I am averaging a silver coin for every trip out and hope these get bigger :)
Parts of Tony's spot I am abandoning for a while as Twice in two days I have been bailed up by wandering dogs..first was a pit type..lucky I had the high ground and made a quiet retreat...then the next day a different dog in the same spot, came across me while I was looking at the low ground the other dog prevented me from hunting! We meet face to face and Immediately I removed eye contact and swiftly and as calmly as I could tried to scrambled up the bank, but having forgot I was attached to the detector, tripped and fell hard giving me a dead leg, I managed to crawl up the back to my pack, where I keep butchers knife, and felt a lot safer when I was out of it's site.
Hoping to get out in the hills for a few days looking at the river metal to give me something to show on the other side of the forum, Happy hunting :)

Mate that is a very nice brooch! looks like its probably high gold content judging by the darker yellow colour.
Good on ya, I have only ever found three bits of gold in my park hunting.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Very nice brooch there Sean. A nice, high quality Victorian piece I'd say. Certainly looks like a high gold content colour-wise, and the stones (dark rubies maybe??)...appear to be in great nic too. You should get it to a jeweler for an assessment....could be worth a bit.

I'm guessing you're not a dog person. Neither am I but I won't be intimidated by one either. I've never had a problem with dogs whilst detecting, although they can sneak up from behind and give you a hell of a fright! But mostly it's just curiosity, and they soon bugger off.

Was a happy lepresean finding two half crowns at my local park :) Thank you Tony for the great gift of a pin pointer and a new digging tool, this has speed up my recovery quite a bit. Finds include a flying cadet badge which have the words 'self help' and I think a surname 'Allen',also a New Zealand Forces and a naval button, I am told by a forum member that it belong to a naval petty officers tunic, also an old shop token, A.S.Wilson Medical Hall, from 1857.

Great mix of finds there LS.
Specially the half crowns.

Gee that dig tool has done some work. Is it a Lesche?
Serrations on both sides is unusual but effective for sure.

Wow, thats a great collection of finds there Sean!
Bet youre well pleased!
Funny-reading about your hassels with dogs(not funny), but I have grief with a dog everytime I go detecting!- My own dog gets soo excited he tries to grab the target out of my hand before Ive even got it outta the hole!
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

Nothing like the cracking scream of a big silver as your coil passes over it, aye Sean.
NOW TO YOUR TOKEN FIND............
The A.S Wilson token, even in rough condition is a stunningly rare find Sean. This is considered on the "R" scale (R1 being common and R10 being extremely rare) as an R7, possibly only a single digit number of examples known. A "very good" example is considered to be worth as much as $600NZD...............so well done you!

Cheers :) it is a Gator brand tool that Tony had sharpened on both edges for me, it is really nice at slicing through grass and have visited a few of my old holes and notice areas cut with this tool recover much better. Tony was also kind enough to give me a set of headphones so I can remain a bit less obvious. Also amongst the last few weeks of finds was a double headed George v penny very well made and in good condition with the join barely visible, will try get a photo that shows both sides...might try holding it up to the mirror and taking a photo.

Wow thanks for that info, I have only given it a rinse in water and have yet to attempt any other methods of cleaning on it yet, what do you recommend is the best thing to do with it? leave it as is or soak in olive oil? Yes the silvers set the Ace 250 off like a cracker, one cent coins a very noisy as are pennies, one of the half crowns was stuck to a penny so was very surprised :)

I believe the best way is to gently rub the token between thumb and forefinger with a generous amount of liquid soap applied. This gently removes any excess dirt from the surface of the token. Repeat this process three or four times until you're happy that the excess dirt has gone. Rinse off in clean warm water.
Then as you suggest, allow the token to soak thoroughly in olive oil for as long as you can. I have a couple of tokens that I've had soaking for four months now.
Once happy with the result, gently remove excess oil from the surfaces and store carefully. I put my best examples into a cardboard coin pocket and carefully staple the four corners.
Hope this helps! :)

pics from my last adventure about a month ago, have the ace 250 on the odd occasion but have not found much lately, went out for a quick hunt with a friend of mine and a gold bug she had on loan and recovered two small silvers between us. The cricketing relic looks like a belt buckle or bag badge? and a Manchester united badge? on the back, has made in Wellington.

Hi Sean. I think you'll find that the wee rugby club badge is from the Massey University Rugby Football Club. The cricket one is very cool. Never seen anything like that before.....nice!

Certainly a rugby club but I doubt that it's Massey University, firstly because of the hyphen and secondly as the red and white colours are not those of the Massey University Rugby Football Club. I thought it might have been one of the Marist clubs but there's nothing like that on the NZ Marist clubs website. I'll have to do some research but it's quite possible that it is an overseas club as rugby badges are collectors' items.

Added later: A search of NZ's rugby unions on the internet has failed to identify any club that fits with the badge. Could be a now defunct club or it has merged with another and changed its name (many have done so over the years) or it is an overseas club.
