Yeah, well, no responces to my post above, but I went out and got a California Sluice Box - drop riffles in ABS plastic and it seems to be totally effective. I have only run maybe five 10 litre buckets full of classified material through it, but have recovered a number of small gold flakes. Weather here on the 'Coast has been rather shitty so havn't had the chance to get out for a while, but a few fine days will have me back out there to give the sluice a real work out. I also bought a Bucket Sluice Concentrator, which I have run a bit of material through and recovered some really fine gold. These plastic drop riffle sluice boxes are extremely easy to clean, weigh practically nothing, and seem really effective - I'll post more info after giving them a bit more use.

Hi MD, I'll be in the country soon... this coming summer... and will be looking to buy some gear. I like the sounds of that lightweight sluicebox. Did you get it posted over from California, or are you able to buy them in the country?

if you are using a plastic sluicebox make sure that it is secure and don't float down the stream like mine did with about 10 grams of gold in it, i still have nightmares about it

I have planned to buy a Bucket Sluice Concentrator, the drop riffle system and pretty much the whole design impressed me, I recently brought an alloy Sluice from the States which I have worked over the last Month with good results, and know the Bucket Concentrator will be a great addition to my kit on clean up. I brought a Hand Suction pump from goldnsand.com they also supply the bucket concentrators along with some other goodies, Do you know if I am legally able to use the Hand Suction Pump in public fossicking areas? and yeah be glad to see the end of this horror wet weather and the sparkle of Gold in the Sluice :-)

Hi Gavin, Thank you for feedback I'd be lost if I had to leave my Hand Suction Pump at home, it is a true asset to my back pack, I see that my Sluice 250mm by 1200mm is a little big, all the rules that apply make it hard on us guys that only want nothing more than to have a hobby and appreciate the outdoors and find some treasure....

Hi all, was just wondering if anyone had tried out there plastic sluices yet. I checked out the california sluice box company and noticed the plastic sluice comes in 2 sizes. I'm thinking all you really need when backpacking into the less well-reached places is one of those sluices and say a hand pump. What do you reckon, would the larger sluice be too cumbersome for a backpack?

I have been using the plastic sluice boxes for the last few months. They work very well, no more riffles, mats and mesh for me. The boxes that I use are from the California sluice box people. The first photos are of the GMS highbanker and the last photo is the Bucket sluice. For the water supply to the GMS I use a honda wx15, so the whole system is very light. The Bucket sluice is set up to recirculate the water, it uses a 12 volt battery and a Rule 360 pump.

Fine gold is what I prefer to chase. If you do come across any nuggets they sit in the nugget trap in the top hopper.
Don't quite understand you saying the whole sluice covered in mesh?

Hey Bikerman I've brought in a hand pump from gold n sand, I think all up with a spare set of valves (which I have never used) cost $206.00 with alittle over a week on delivery, I'm wrapped with the performance once you understand how to use it properly, A true asset to your back pack.....you wont regret it...
