I found a little colour at Goldsborough and the Nelson Creek public fossicking area. Worth trying there for a start. You can go to the Gold shop at Hokitika and ask also. A lot of people wont reply as theres sooo many people that want the same thing as you (including myself when I came here) and just as many again that just lurk and watch for tips on where to go.

kiwikeith: i'm down south and a long way from all the places you give coordinates for but i'm curious as to how to use these coords. is there a site online that i could simply copy and paste these into?

i'm sure i used to do this with one of the online mapping sites but for the life of me can't remember which site it was. i remember when i zoomed in and moved across the map it displayed the coordinates of the mouse on the bottom of the screen.

Google Earth gives the co ordinates as Latitude and Longitude and that is so accurate that you can more or less pinpoint a spot to within inches
