Am thinking ACE250 plus a Garrett Pro Pointer $450 + $ 260 = $710

or a Euro ACE $639 and get a pointer later.

Has anyone used these at the beach?

Cheers in advance

~shakes head~
Ace 250 good Fisher F2 Better with target ID and very similar price!
I'm not sure but if you're thinking of an Ace 350 you might want to consider an Fisher F4 (adjustable gb)
I love Garrets (I have an ATGOLD) and after using an ace 250 over the last few days makes you realize how important numerical target ID is

also if you are thinkiing of spending 710...i would go the extra 40 and get the goldbug..i have found it to be great at the beach
although i dont get there as offten as shane or some of the others do i have had some good finds when i did get there..
with the goldbug it has built in pinpoint and adjustable Ground ballance and since it is a gold machine i find it easy to cut out some of the extra hum you get from the wet mineralized sand....alltough shane has found some dam nice stuff with his Ace250 i personally havnt used one at the beach or anywhere else for that matter so cant speak for which is better..i can only go on what i have.

VLF detectors all work in the same basic way. It's actually pretty simple technology that hasn't changed much over the years. What separates the likes of the Fisher F2 and Garret ACE250/350 from the cheapies is their 'punch' or depth, and the ability to interpret a signal and determine it's depth and characteristics. If you can afford it I would go for the Fisher.

When I looked at the fishers which wasn't long ago, I found that Roberts prices were very good within $30 (for the F2 or F4) of importing myself so it's a no brainer to buy from him.

The only reason I ended up with the Garrett is because it is waterproof.
With the F2 you might find you want the DD coil, if that's the case then try and get the F4 in the first place as it has the adjustable ground balance and has the 11" DD and from what I have read and seen they are great at the beach.

With the Goldbug you would most likely need to buy another coil as well as I think they come with a standard 5"
The GoldBug with 11"DD would be $950. Considering your location that might be a bit pricey
But ~This is your cue to start nodding and grinning Poohbear~ they do love silver!!!

I think the F4 considering your location would be a great choice and shouldn't take long to pay for itself
I'd do it this way - F4 from Robert $530 - Garrett Pro Pointer Ebay NZ$175 (including shipping) = $705
That's a pretty big jump from the Ace 250 for less money!

I hear ya, I go through stages - Rc Cars/Helicopters Mountain Bikes/MotoX Photography Fishing.
Learnt to try and keep the gear (as hard as it can be at times) as I know when I sell it I'll miss it.
I regretted selling my Ace 250 but as you said hopefully you will find heaps of goodies, which no doubt you will and should pay for more toys!
