Last week I declare was half crown week.

On Friday, in Timaru, went on a dusk hunt at a park in the middle of town, and pulled 2 half crowns from two hole 6 inches apart. 1933 and 1935. Sweet. Same park had given up 2 shillings the night before and NO three or sixpences. Also found a lead postbag seal with "GPO NZ" on one side and "TU" (Timaru?) on the other. Not sure what someone is doing opening post bags in a park :| Other interesting find was what looks like a mini lipstick, it's copper (possibly was plated) and has a little black push button on the side to pull the lid off, and "MOVEN" lettering on the top of the lid. Haven't tried to open it yet - need to clean it up a bit first.

Then yesterday I'm filling in a bit of time while the kids are at a birthday party, so hit the banks of the avon river close to the red zone, and after ages I'm about to give up as I've mainly pulled decimal and very few pennies, then BANG! Out of my next hole pops a 1933 half crown, 1933 sixpence, 1937 sixpence and 1946 threepence. My sincere thanks to whoever spilt those from his pocket in the late forties.

I feel it's almost time for a half sovereign.

Good to meet up with Dan at his Winchester haunt

Dan,

I think the only silver Crowns were the Waitangi crowns of 1935. The largest post silver coin I have found is a florin, but you would think there must be some out there.

The 1949 "Royal Visit" Crown is also 0.5 silver. Just over 200,000 minted - must be one out there somewhere!

I think we would be very very lucky to find a 1935 waitangi crown as there was only 1128 made..but it would be nice.
Also andrew when are you going to post some pics of your finds?...lol...would love to see all the silvers...

I have managed to find a non silver 1/2 crown... only wished it were silver! found it with a pocket spill containing a hole bunch of non silvers and some pennies. What made it worse was that it is a 1947! only one year off!!!!

yes its definitely getting dry and we need to use common sense digging in areas which could start stirring up council type people as too many dry dead circles in one area will make someone say something...winter might be cold but teh ground or dirt os soo sticky that usually no grass dies

Hey...who wants to loan me a half crown or full crown so can learn the signals on my F2 lol...go on...anyone? :)
