I've just spent a very wet 12 day camping holiday down at Thames. I was panning in a river next to a Ford and this old couple turned up. They were the local farmers. They stopped on the Ford and got out. I said good mornning. The old lady starred at me with a big frown and said"What do you thing you are doing "? I said "Ah just doing a bit of panning, haven't really found anything". She stood there frowning. So I said "You don't mind, do you "? She said "I do actualy". I said "Why"? She said Your causing erosion". I said I'am not causing erosion. All I'am doing is chicken scratching. Look how much the river is moving". I then explained how digging in the river bed is just like digging over the veggy garden. Your air rating the materail which helps with decomposing. It also helps fish find food. I also said that if I dig a hole I always fill it in again. It would have been easier to smiply tell the old bag to F*** off. But this would not have given panning a good name.

Well done mate you are a credit to the sport, although the f*** off option does cross my mind sometimes also.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

God some people have nothing to do so they try and stop anyone they see having a bit of fun. It is hard to bite the tongue sometimes when this happens.
