Pinpoint Detectors

I see a number of you are using the Garret pinpointer - best value for money? Do any of you use a waterproof one?

I've also seen them put in zip lock bags..... Not exactly an answer to your question but gives you an idea how versatile they are.

When I was learning to pinpoint with my detector it was frustrating to say the least. I went back through some of those plugs with my Pro-pointer and found many of the targets just in the walls of the hole. The battery on mine went flat the other day and it made a weird siren type sound. I pretty much stopped then and there, as I was in a bark playground and coins get so dis-coloured you don't always see that you have dug them out. Speaking of battery life it lasted just over a month has been thrashed, left on and played with by the kids a number of times, so I thought that was pretty good. Rank: Gold Ingot Groups: Registered Joined: 2/08/2011(UTC) Posts: 461 Location: Auckland Thanks: 48 times Was thanked: 95 time(s) in 92 post(s)		Well I saved up my current coin finds to buy my garrett propointer and I think that it is great! but lets say that you are not sure about which pin pointer to get (i.e. an underwater one which can be costly) just buy a cheapy one from www.puiakisupply.co.nz they are only like $60. a third of what my pro pointer cost. and if you notice after using it for a while that you need an underwater one then you can buy one but if you find that after using it you don't need an underwater one then upgrade to the pro point. I thought about doing that but waited instead...(but now that I have a pointer I wish I would have bought the cheapy one first as I waisted a lot of time and could have bought the pro pointer a lot quicker...) One of the reasons- parks where you are not allowed to DIG, but want to find those targets in top grass, or right inbetwwen grass roots and soil : Nail location with detector to see 1-2 depth, use pinpointer to find where it is on top - reward is those coins,jewelry or beer tops, but all within 30 seconds and no diggin - i start using such mode for city parks, not to be told off. Set detector to discriminate on 50+ and off you go for top soil search, really good strategy for such areas as Aucklad Domain - you can not even swing your coil as there are trillion of targets- mostly beer tops. but u can fast enough find all the coins

Tried out my detector in the local school playground today and see the need for a pointer, as Guardian said the coins discolour pretty quick in the bark.
