Just got back from a few days up moonlight, just thought I'd let you fellows know that the bridge is still out, I spoke to doc they said sometime in Jan it should be finished, up at the far car park (when it opens) doc have fenced off some of the camping areas, so it will be a bit cozy up there in late summer I would imagine.

Hi digahole,

Thanks for letting us know about that.

Hi there digahole, Yes thanks for that up date. I cant help but feel, Real strong, that DOC have a hidden agenda about the Moonlight. It is a cracker spot to go. Why on earth did they not reinstate that bridge straight after they pulled it up?? Must be over a year ago now. Because they dont want people going up there camping, thats why. I bet you it wont be reinstated any time soon. If they where honest about doing it dont you think they would have done it in time for the xmas holiday period so you & I, the tax paying public that pays for & fund there salaries & existence, could go up there camping & gold fossicking as our right?? Stuffed if I know. Pisses me off. They find the money for 1080........

Stopped off a moonlight creek for the afternoon on the way home, the snow two weeks ago must have been a good one, the forest got smashed, I guy I bumped into said that some fellow gold seekers got stuck at the car park for four days, till doc managed to reopen the road. I managed .4 of a gram for a couple hours detecting, still more in that crack, only had my estwing rock pick and it was getting abused!! SOLID GRANITE BEDROCK. P.S take a brush cutter with you if you go, most of the tracks you will not recoginse!!

about DoC and the bridge.
DoC has a kiwi bird sanctuary up there and built a little tin hut for the group of locals that look after the birds. Sadley the hut and most of the stout traps got distroyed by some brain dead human. If it was a hunter or digger or a tramper i don't know. Also some of the diggers started to fell trees and working away river banks at a large scale and further problems arise with peoples started living up Andersons car park, shitting behind every bush, getting too pissed and scaring weekenders and familys away.
Its usually only one or two that stuffed it up for every one!
Be nice to DoC land, then thats all whats left of New Zealand once the John of the Parliament and his 40 side kicks are finished.

yeah, i heard a while back the area was getting a bit messed up.

there's been quite a bit of coverage on the forum over time in regards to the moonlight.

does anyone familiar with the area have any photos. of the damage that's been done, condition of tracks now or any adventures up that way?

grateful to see anything.
