Hi All

Does anyone have any thoughts on using stereo noise cancelling headphones with Gold detectors - provided of course your detector outputs sound on the stereo freq...?
As they use a battery to actively reduce the outdoor noise, would this have any effect on the control box, or would there be absolutely no concerns at all?

Any ideas/thoughts welcome, considering buying some to pick up on the faintest signal and do away with all the additional noise...

Cheers

Hi there Gold nuggz, Welcome to the forum, I cant answer your query re the stero headphones & cancelling out "outside" noises. The noises you hear through your headphones or external speaker are all part of the big picture of what your detector is trying to tell you that it is picking up from not just the ground but from all around you. It comes down to your experiance & skill to desyphore those noises & to pick out the signal you are wanting. If you fillter out noises you may well fillter out the one you are wanting. That is why your ground balancing is very important & the use of the right coil & right settings for the conditions you are detecting in. Also depends a lot on what detector you are using & what you are detecting for. A signal booster can help highten those faint signals that you are after. All be that it can also boost those "outside" signals as well. The secret is to get your detector to run as quietly as you can without losing too much depth & sensitivity. It becomes a head game & ground balancing your mind as much as your detector & tuning yourself in to the sounds your detector is giving you.
Probably not much help to you but I am sure if what you have asked worked then we would all know about it & it would be the norm.

Happy hunting

JW :)

Noise-canceling headphones are not a good idea if you're in an area where a Magpie might decide your'e too close to a nest, or there is a chance of a out-of-control vehicle rolling over you.

I'm all for maintaining awareness of the local environment.

Hi kiwijw
Thanks, sounds like noise-cancelling (the irony :) headphones should go well with my Minelab Eureka . Haven't had too long, still getting used to it, but the automatic ground balancing makes things a sinch balancing wise, can't wait for the Xmas break!
The only thing I wonder about these headphones is whether or not the fact that they are powered by a battery would cause interference on the it...hmm

Philips Noise Cancelling earphones had absolutely no effect (interference) with my at gold.
I wouldn't use them detecting just because when they are turned on the sound is less true and they boost bass (well mine do).
I have used some Seinheiser in ear buds and they worked VERY well, you might want to try a cheaper type first to see if you like them. good thing is they aren't powered.

Just remember that when you're using them they don't need to be loud which is good but... it makes it very hard to hear what's going on around you.

Cheers Guardian, I was looking at Phillips in the shop, they sounded the part - good to know no interference!

A bluetooth sender plugged into the earphone socket and a pair of bluetooth headphones would be nice - to remove the headphone cord from the equation.

Those ones are infrared. Works just as well for what we want.

Ones like these http://www.crutchfield.c...luetooth-Headphones.html have a mic as well, so if you phone rings in your pocket while you're detecting, you can answer it as well. :)

I wonder if tricky dicky's has anything suitable?
