just spotted this on trade me.

want to own your own gold mines? this property has its own historic mines.

i'm sure if you buy it all you won't be able to do bugger all with the property though.

Dont ya just wish you were a millionaire - buy them both! They both look great for their different reasons and I for one would love either or but as far as the latter is concerned its more a younger persons thing...been there, done that...the spirit is willing but the body doesnt want to sort of thing.

I could handle the first one OK but would be sorely tempted to disregard the QEII covenant and let a bulldozer get out of control...just to see what I could find.!

It's not the QEII covenant that you would have to worry about - its some of the locals! Was brought up in the area near the Waitaia listing and that area is riddled with mines, unfortunately it is hard rock gold so you won't get much without using a battery. Also after experiencing the anti-mining movement in the early 80's , even doing it on the sly on your own land will be risking life and property.

But I reckon its a good price for the area and some nice land!

Yes I know it is hard rock mining but that would suit me fine - not to make money - just 'because' - I have often thought of setting up one of the smaller three stamp batteries and for that purpose got an old single cylinder engine many years ago with big flywheels and an open crankshaft but never got around to it...I guess anyone up there trying to set up something like that would become 'The Neighbour from Hell' - great country though and at the very east I would spend a great deal of time looking through old mine drives...and pillaging.
