i visited whitechapel road in the weekend. its a little gravel road near the turn off to arrowturn, the one by the arrow river.
there's a bit of history there inc a stone ruin at the start of the road, a weir on the river at the far end off the road.
of particular interest was the latest round of local destruction by do gooding bloody greenie types. yep the trail builders. they are running their highway sized trail right thru here and have ploughed the whole mining site on the river bank.
like most such sites it was overgrown in gorse and broom. not a lot to see but it was there. the most obvious little gully has now been dug into a nice little drainage ditch.
rumour had it that a guy got a couple of ounces detecting here a few summers back with a 4500. i don't usually let such info out but anyone who is into such may as well get into out there before they plant it all out in trees and picnic tables. somehow i doubt the trees will get established as its hot hot hot and not too fertile.
i took in a tub of water and got some small bits. before that i took a bucket of dirt down to the river and got a good sized flake. tried the gold bug 2 with no luck. the other guy sure gave the place a good working over. you could see where he had been by all the broom he had chopped down. a pity he didn't wait for the crawler to clear fell it all as it is now.
