Have just read Gold Prospectors; an American magazine kindly lent by to me by an Auckland member of this forum. The ads are just as fascinating as the articles. There are a startling number of ads for bags of Alaskan concentrates (advertised as much easier than digging it yourself) in bags ranging from $50 to $180. One such venture is: http://www.felixpaydirt.com/

Yessir it gives me the same feeling that Readers Digest's promotional carrots fed to the Donkey does - in other words promises of riches beyond compare, long lists of lucky winners and photographs of smiling faces. Now Felix is giving away 90 nuggets in 30 days and that is surely nice of him but you have to buy a bag of his paydirt to get one - and just how many bags of paydirt are the 90 nuggets shared amongst? - Now therein lies the question. Felix aint no fool and nor is Readers Digest!

The most interesting part of it all is reading about it and getting new ideas - now lets see ten thousand bags of paydirt at an average of say $100 per bag equals $1,000,000 take away the value of 90 nuggets averaging say 1/4 ounce, say $45,000 plus say another $55,000 worth of dust and small nuggety chunks equals a profit of $900,000 then take away cost of mining, processing, advertising and miscellaneous overheads including taxation - another $400,000 all up and half million profit - theoretical figures but it still adds up in favour of Felix!

Whats a Goldbug worth - $800? - better to go get your own and in between times pillage the local beach, racecourse and the neighbours backyard when hes on holiday!

I did enjoy Felix's promotional video though so thanks for submitting it...and Gavin dont give me credit for thanking anyone as its against my nature.

my thoughts exactly lammerlaw.

some things always sound too good to be true.

no one makes money throwing their nuggets away. and you first need to acquire those nuggets. look back to gold rush alaska the tv series. they were on a historically rich claim with virgin ground. how much gold did they get their hands on. if this guy had things a 1000 times easier to actually get nuggets and smaller gold he'd still be a fool to load up bags and sell it for less than it was worth. logically speaking i'm sure the people that bag it up would be keeping an eye out for anything big and shiny.

of course its easy to spike a few bags to get some word of mouth going. reminds me of devoid gold claims of the goldrush where storekeepers and the like spiked samples to make areas look better than they were in reality.

maybe this guy would do the same for the first bag you order off him. would make sense. then come back for another dozen and funnily enough not so good.

good marketing though i have to admit.

buy a pan and find some flood gold. talk to the old timer down at the local pub. they will point you in the right direction. at least at the end of the end you should see some gold. and you still have a pan for the next outing.

p.s. has anyone ever bought a bag of paydirt off anyone? interested to know how they got on. i've seen many such ads over the years.
