Hi,

For (minimum) 2 months we are going to travel through N.Z. In this 2 months we are looking for some "colour". :-)
We have no experience at all. So now I am trying to get information where to go.

Would be nice if the area is remote, to pay for a claim is also an option, as long as it is not expensive. :-)
We are hoping to try panning and the metal detector.

So, if someone has some advise where to go? Would be very helpful!

Grz,
Reg

Reg,

Do some research and reading to at least familiarize yourself with the basics. I suggest you get a book such as "Gold for the Taking". See this site http://www.findgoldnz.com/

Then to get someone to show you how to pan, go to Shantytown near Greymouth or the Goldfields Mining centre in the Kawarau Gorge, between Cromwell and Queenstown.

Hi reg..i read that you are starting your trip in CHCH...depends on which way you are going as to where i would send you..lol...
If you are wanting to stay on the east coast to start with then i would sugest going to dansy's pass holiday park...you can pan there and it is a good base camp if you want to go up river a bit..and you will allmost allways get color..although very small flakes it is still color...but if you are leaveing CHCH and heading right over to the west coast then yes i would go to shanty town or the goldfield mining center as sugested by gjj109.

Also.as far as the metal detector goes i would sugest the goldbug off rgmcbrid if you are looking for reasonably priced all around detector that is designed
for gold but does great for either.

Cheers
Chris

Thanx nzpoohbear40!
In 2 months we can go to a couple of places, so Shanty town can be a good option for us. :-)

The Goldbug.... Ok, put it in my list. :-)

Thanx again for your advice. Appreciate it!
