We my Detector arrived today and Pro Pointer. Ya Ha, As My doc said no more motorcycle racing I have cleared out the back of shaggy the van and it now has a double bed with sheets and the works in it and Im off. Im not going to take the At Pro but all my panning gear is in and set to go in the morning for my first proper bash at finding the big really big nugget or 2.
Im going to go to slab hut creek first till sunday, has anyone had any luck there??. Then on sunday Im going Nelson Creek area for another day and night. Back on Monday for the Big Weigh in of nuggets (Yer thats the plan) Would be greatful if anyone can give an old bugger some tip for these places.

Spent a few hours detecting at Slab Hut this winter, found the odd coin and bullet, but no nuggets. Lots of holes where people had been panning, but I wondered if it is an area that has mostly fine gold.

hi yes been to slab hut creek a graet camping spot

got reasonable gold about half hour walk up stream found a spot were there was some slope in the river diverted the river and ground sliuced through the box

the gourge starts 1 hour up stream always wanted to go there
the track is on the true right of the river

never had any luck in nelson creek so will be interested in how you do there
massive gold workings in the area

always good to try these areas at the end of winter after the winter rains and before the summer tourists get there

good luck post the photos will be at the claim on sun if you want some real gold

heres a good site for a pan etc
e 1506609 n5328541
this is also in slab hut creek but at the top end take soldiers big river road and 4wd top end to where it crosses the slab hut creek for the first time (the crossing is well worth a pan as there is gold in the bedrock cracks)
ture round at the ford heading back out and about 50 m from the ford on the left is a 4wd track
drive down there untill it crosses the slab its the top end of the gorge very good colour in this area
