Well I am in the market to get another detector my current one was good but now I am looking to get a better one But I am not sure which to get. I was looking at the Fisher F2/F4 or the Garret 250/350. Which one would you chose and why? I see the pros to the F2/F4 cause of the identifier number rather than the scale of the garret.

I would appreciate any help. cheers!

"I see the pros to the F2/F4 cause of the identifier number rather than the scale of the garret.".....thats exactly why I went with the F2. And its a little cheaper than the Garret 250 if I remember right. I'm stoked with mine but as always happens would love a $1000 plus machine next.

I have seen my sons friend and his cobber outdo my son who had my Minelab and has had a fair bit of gold with it - they had Fisher Goldbugs - I went out and bought one right away to replace my big Minelab and my son bought one as well!

are you planing on looking for gold as well as coin/relic hunting goldnut?...if so i would suggest the fisher goldbug....if you are mostly just after coins and relics then i would say depending on what you want to spend the F4 comes with 11"DD coil..the F2 comes with 8" round coil...I have never used an F2 but i know Chrischch and madsonicboating both have them and are having great sucsess with them...
Also i have never used either of those garretts so cant say how they prefrom other than to say both fisher and garrett are in the top brands along with whites and mindlab.

For general use go the Ace 350. All round mean machine. For hunting gold only, i guess you need something a bit more suited possibly, so they say. Well for small stuff anyway.

Will the gold bug pickup coins and relics too? where I am there really isn't much for gold unless it is a ring or other jewelry.

Shane

My ace is my first ever machine so yes ill say its great, which it is. Cant believe wot ive found so far. Looks good, turn on and go and an easy as screen with nice basic sounds which helps heaps. Costs a bit if you buy in NZ tho. Good luck in deciding wot to get. I got mine for general use.

(A prime example of why you need a cover)

Id say its the discrim confirmation button if its similar to the AtPro.

Ya chose what area with the above +/- button, then click the lower one to notch out or back in. :)

I started with an Ace 250 and still have it. Found lots of stuff with it in parks and beaches. Not so good near the water
but still easy to learn and value for money for general fun and/or entry level machine and it has most of the features of the 350.
I think with any detector "you get what you pay for" and the more you pay the harder they are to master. That of course is
all part of the challenge of this excellent hobby. I found the jump from a 250 to an E trac was a big one but with an increased fun factor.

Yes goldnut the gold bug picks up coins and relics..lol...all of my post about what i found are with my gold bug...i havnt hunted gold with it yet..
i have only hit parks up here in christchurch so far..and have found 6 or 7 silver rings..lots of coins...and a few other things like hat badges and what not.

Creamer im the same way about my gold bug..it is my first real machine and there for speak highly of it as you do about the garrett ace..lol...they are both good mid range machines and from what i can see we have both found some decent stuff..lol...
i also got mine for general use with the hopes of oneday being able to go hunt gold with it..lol...i have both the 11inch and 5 inch coil for it for when that day comes..hahahaha

I dont use it myself. When theres alot of junk, you push that button to eliminate certain beeps that you dont want. The button in the middle zeros in on a target when you hold it down. A pinpointer. Useless as you dont need it. Easier to use the actual machine as a pinpointer.
Ace 350. mean machine.

Make your head spin Gnut.. wot to get next.

Wow thanks for all of the advice! I am afraid the Goldbug is a bit out of my price range. But the 250 and the f2 are still in. but the F2 has only an 8 inch instead of the 11. does it matter much about the size??? lol I just realized how that could be taken.

the bigger the coil normally the deeper it goes...and as far as i know that is the same with any detector...i dont think there would be much difference between the 8 and 11 but there will be some difference.
Again i dont know what comes with or can be had for the Ace 250...But there are 3 coils for the F2...the 8 inch that comes with it
plus the 11DD and i think the 5inch are avalable for it.
