Why such a big price difference?
the guy on Trademe still has to pay for success fees as well.

The excals on trade me are 8" coil units which minelab have dumped to clear stock as the 8" coil unit has been discontinued.
I have only ever sold the 10" unit.

I might have a slightly longer memory than some forum members

Yes this guy is a legitimate minelab distributer but he has also been caught selling counterfeit detectors off as genuine in times past and as such I will never trust him. I have no regrets about paying extra to buy my minelab SDC from detectNZ and the post sales support from Chris will have me going back.

$1600 minelab GPX5000 anyone?

What about one for $800?? tempted?

Please please don't!!!

It's sad that as a community we have been targeted by scammers but this is the age we live in. Be very very careful buying minelab detectors.

I was very surprised to read that article in the link you gave about Meade.. it does appear that he has sold at least one fake detector and has not given any rebuttal, despite having thousands of trades and being in trade so now under consumer protection. In his GPX5000 auction now, he states he is "the" nz minelab dealer, not "a". How does detectnz feel about that? He also allows pickups of telescopes from a Nature Discovery shop in Riccarton- source a recent TM trade of his.

The goldcity link you gave is excellent, there have been a number of fake GPX5000s about lately on TM and the handles have been a giveaway. As far as I know older ML models have never been a problem.

TM sometimes do the right thing in response to Community Watch:

Thanks for reporting the listing # 1141907842, MINELAB GPX 5000 METAL DETECTOR.

The Trade Me Customer Support Team have reviewed the listing and has deemed that it is in breach of our terms and conditions. As a result the listing has been removed from the site.

Thank you for bringing this listing to our attention and making Trade Me a better place to buy and sell.

Happy trading!
