Huh, didn't you find any coins or buttons or anything in there? I don't even see any pull tabs or bottle caps... are you sure you know how to work that thing?

Hi Hatter
Yep just concentrates i screen,d about 40 liters through whitebait mesh and ran it over the sluice work,d good...i pan,d what went of the end and found nothing more than the odd tiny speck.
Yea the weather has been pretty crappy to much high snowmelt water for my likeing....but shurely that will change soon as spring seems to be arriveing pretty late in this neck of the woods :(...

Yeah i was wandering around on a bit of a hill in dunedin (The Organ pipes) and started getting pelted with snow yesterday so its not quite tropical yet. I went out with Graham and co the other weekend me and a mate got 9 grams in two half days over the weekend dunno if you saw that (recent finds) was good to get out there again. Are you able to get out there and do full days dredging yet? Your clean up system seems to work good then, dont you wish you didnt have blacksand to deal with!

Hi hatter...9rams of nuggets sounds great to me...i was looking at the pic before look great.
yea i did a couple of fullish days a wile back i was out of the main channel with very little flowing water so to my surprise didnt get cold but since then have had no show of getting back in....as for the black sand i dealt to that pretty quick with some quick silver basically all that blacksand/gold you can see in the pic,s just went into a 4 liter container along with a couple of teaspoons of mercury shake shake for about 5 minuets and all that gold is more or less all stuck in nice shiney silver lumps all thats required after that is to wash the sand away which is a whole lot easyer with no gold mixd in with it!!

Sure sounds like the quicksilver helps a bit! Where do you get the stuff from tho? I once got a few drops of it when i had my sluice box going, when i was panning out my concentrates it just combined all the gold into a lump was quite cool. Of course i then evaporated the mercury off and was left with a spongy sorta mess of gold was quite odd. If kind of welded the gold together or something. By the look of all the black sand and fine gold i though you might have been down at the beach with henry.....

Haha hey lots of gold dust still adds up, I dont really get to see any anymore as im severely interested in detecting and my detector doesn't find dust. Bugger i'll just have to take the nuggets it finds what a shame. I dont actually need any mercury, someone once said that where the outlets from old stamper batterys used to be is where a lot of mercury could be found? It makes sense to me as the old miners were a bit less into tree hugging.

What would it look like mixed in the dirt? Wouldnt it sink away down and disperse? Maybe it picks up all the wee bits of lost gold and amalgamates it into a wee nugget to be found later?
