Be prepared to pay a substantial amount of money before you start making a profit if you are looking at buying claims and you must know what you are doing to be successful. Best of luck.

Hey mate,

Just wondering what your looking for in a claim. Just somewhere to go and dredge or are you looking for somewhere to dredge and make money every year doing it. And it is just you, you and a mate, or the whole fam-damn-ly.

Just so you know, just to be able to dredge each year you need Public liability insurance. That alone is $1000 and can cover you for as many rivers as you want if you can name them all when you buy it. You should know when you buy it tho what river you will be on. So before you do to much looking into working with other people, sort out someone to get your PLI from because it does range a bit in price.

You might be better off just asking someone who has a claim if you can pay them, say, $1000 plus 10% a year to dredge if your thinking every weekend. You will still need PLI for yourself to dredge on that river, so if you talk to someone just let them know that you will be covered.

Going partners with someone you might not know might be a bad choice. You will either have to start a company to cover you all under one PLI or you will each need your own if you really want to be legal, with other people working on there own on the same claim. Since you want to go on the weekends, and your partner might also want to go on weekends you would need to be able to run 2 dredges on the same claim, not impossible but might not be that easy anymore. Just more paperwork if you do your own claim and want to be totally legal.

Anyways you can decide on what will work best for you, but to buy your own claim for $5000 is not going to happen. My opinion is if you really want to get into dredging, hopefully you can find someone on here that would let you rent some dredging time, spot, claim for your budget.

I mean we are here to be helping each other out right.

Yes i understand that $5000 wasn't going to get me my own claim that's why i was asking if there were any other interested people to go in it together or wanting to buy into an existing claim . Thanks for bringing up about legal liability insurance that was something i was going to look into . I leased some ground last year but cant lease the same area as the claim is in the process of being sold . I know with the cost of things that the dream of owning or partly owning a claim will probably end up being to deer for me so i will probably shoot the dream in the head and just stick to carrying the pan with me when hunting and playing in the public areas and sell the dredge.

$5k is plenty for a claim round here, providing access is simple.

Always have the dream mate. I have been prospecting with pan and sluice since the age of seven and having my own claim has always been the final objective of the journey, and I still feel a long way off from that! But I am in no hurry, enjoying the history and nature and most of the people I meet on the goldfields is a different kind of gold. Over time I have built up experience and equipment, owning you own 4in dredge is a bonus and an asset you should hold on to for the future, it is the gear you will use, to find the gold to buy/make the next upgrade of your equipment, to find more gold ;) http://paperspast.natlib...&d=OW18950314.2.41.4

Hi LepreSean

Yeah i have been panning since i was young started with panning my old mans gravel drive way, found my first gold up the coromandel in the same creek charles and fredrick ring found gold in in 1852 . When i was 19 i moved to the west coast just to be closer to the gold been panning and sluicing ever since meet some great people and been to some far out places . Bought the dredge last year before i had any where to go but managed to lease some ground last year was a good learning curve . Thanks for the encouragement mate and the dream will never die thats for sure.

Hi

have put the idea of a claim with a couple of others on the back burner as there was no interest. Currently have a four inch home built dredge wanting to know if any claim owners would let me on there claim for a dredge would only be a day or two at a time happy to pay a daily fee or work out a deal and follow all rules set to a tea if not would anybody be happy for me to run a small sluice box and gold pan on there claim for a fee please pm me if you want to. Just looking for some where else love having a sluice on the public areas just looking for some where else mainly west coast or otago.

Thanks for your time again.

Stuart

Still really keen to get a bunch of like minded people together a get a claim i know this has happened before if we got 6-8 people together and put in say 3k each we should be able to sort something i know most people cant afford to do it by them self's but if we get together we could do it
