Hey guys a mate and I teamed up with Lammerlaw (thanks again for the privilege) and son for the weekend an had a bit of a gold hunt. My mate and I worked together to get the 9 grams in the picture ive attached. We spent about 10 hours looking including 3 hours of walking so not too bad a result, although it seems one is never quite satisfied no matter the quantity (gold feaver!).
Happy hunting

And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

It has been said that when theres a will theres a way - save up hard and come a calling. You would be most welcome Mem - its pretty rough country when the weathers inclement though so winter woollies should be taken even in high summer...Someone also said that 'Where theres a will theres a relative'

I took a bloke from Belgium out last Christmas - he didnt get much but the weather was bad - cant say I like Belgium beer - 8 to 11% incahol depending on what brand. He told me he fossicks for gold in Italy - I thought the Romans got it all but apparently not and the photos he showed me of what his Italian friend has found was truly an eye opener...I wonder if theres any Italian Gold mining forums...just a thought. He posted all his gear out - filled a station wagon! I kid you not...been detecting in Alaska - dug a 100 holes before he found one bit of gold and then it weighed 28grammes! Found at 95cms using a Minelab 4500.

He had all the gear and had got a lot of different ideas from around the world - he had two tools he had made which sort of impressed me, a large and a small crevice scoop but the scoops were attached to sewn linen bags so you could scoop and fill the bag underwater or where ever without having to empty the scoop every time you scooped it - I had never seen one like it and I was impressed. His pan was a design I had never seen either. He even posted what you guys call classifiers - the basic body of it was the size of a large apples crate! Apparently when he went home he posted it all back home and the Belgium customs would not release it all for weeks...probably thought it was all the componentry for a P lab!

That's a good result for the team for the day.

See you don't need a Minelab after all.

Good to see you posting a gold story. We expect to see a few more now that the snow has melted.

Keep it i mind then as you will be most welcome - as for cats I know what I would be feeding it! Saying that though I do have a soft spot for our old one as its around 85 in human terms. I have an English friend - he both looks and sounds like General Montgomery - he also collects cat skins - I have to admit that collecting cat skins could be interesting as there is a great deal of variety...though why he doesnt capitalise out of his fettish for cat skins by selling the meat to some of our immigrants who apparently like eating them I am blowed if I know.

During high summer it can be real nice up at our place so save up accordingly, shoot the cat and come visit.

Hi Mem - There are several funny things about the PC brigade other than the fact that their idea of humour is to laugh at something inane when the prompt tells them to and then go home trying to work out why they laughed or what they were laughing at - in 99% of cases they caste aspersions at others and scream PC in order to disguise or hide their own foibles, weaknesses and behaviour - if they say anything about what I said about cats then invariably they will be closet cat killers themselves...but then again everything I said above is true, the English chap I know does look and sound like General Montgomery and he used to hunt cats and skin them. Actually I always wanted a Davy Crocket hat made out of catskin - the closest you can get I assume in this country to a racoon - I had forgotten that in this day and age you arent allowed to tell the truth if others consider that it is not PC and also if you tell the truth you will put the politicians to shame!

yes its true there are people out there that skin cats

i was selling some possum skins last season and the buyer showed me a couple of skins one big ginger pussy it was so soft
it would make a great coat
years ago i did catch one in a gin trap (wild one) i skinned that they are quite differcult to skin there are alot of moggies out there and 1 dead one is one less to bother our native birds
shooting them is fun but normally ruin the skin
its a pitty one cant shave them like a possum there could be a market for merenio / cat garments blend

this conjours up all sots of images

I am not so sure about your words - 'ginger pussy it was so soft' - I am not sure if you are talking about a cat or my wife! Ginger pussys should be worth more for the skins as they tend to have thicker hair...depending on which we are talking about here!

Back to cats - I dont give one continental stuff what the PC brigade think - I shoot each and every cat I see in the wild as I just happen to be best friend and protector of all native birds...love them heaps. I am often followed by a native Falcon on my place as they nest there - I suppose that the native Falcon is my favourite as they are hunters, sleek and fast and another favourite is the Kea - cheeky little bastards! I think one of my most memorable moments is when I was planting trees with the old NZFS at Bealey near Parthurs Arse in 1969 and on top of the hills behind what is now Bealey Lodge there were big snowflakes falling and Keas cavorted around us.

To protect our native birds all stoats and Ferrets, cats and Opossums are on Death row as far as I am concerned...still havent got a Davy Crockett hat though!

Did you say Gin traps - Someone once told me that they are illegal - Its a good thing I dont know what they are as I use the good old fashioned Rabbit traps - do I detect a snigger! Still using all sorts of brands so actually have a collection of them.

Do you really think those big glowing plaintive eyes would save him/she or it from the Grim Reaper - right now cats are right on top of the 'Hit List' probably because our old one has just done on the floor what most people do in toilet bowls! Your ones safe though as it is too far away and it has too much white in it to become a good Davy Crockett hat.

Now back to the subject at hand whatever it was - After having seen Matt (1864hatter) in action with his Goldbug and my son with my Minelab then value for money says Goldbug every time - They are superb machines and only look like toys but let me assure everyone that Matts goldbug out performed my Minelab last Sunday and my son certainly does know how to use the Minelab as he has had a good deal of gold with it in a relatively short time.

I also thoroughly recommend buying a Goldbug and can vouch that dealing with rgmcbrid is a pleasure...he comes highly recommended...I didnt say that my son and I have ditched the big Minelab and bought Goldbugs did I?
