Might be of interest to some of you fellow Chch'ians if you're digging up a lot of decent scrap...

They seem well organized and its great they advertise their prices. I'm a bit dubious of the metal recyling industry down in Dunedin. The couple of places I use certainly don't publish their prices like this crowd do. Also in Dunedin, in my experience, their scales are set up for commercial quantities. For example a couple of the metal recyling outlets weigh in 2 kg quantities and can't deal with small amounts. For example 2.2 kgs of copper gets weighed in at 2 kgs - you lose the 200 grams. Might as well only bring in exactly 2 kgs and keep the 200 grams until you have more. It might be a 'swings and round abouts' kind of thing but you still need to be savy as to how their system works so the swings go your way not theirs.

Those prices are not very good compared to Sims but I usually have $100 to $500 worth to sell. I havnt ever seen anywhere pay in less than 1kg amounts. Good for a rough idea though.

Hey sold some scrap today. Had the usual copper, brass, lead and assorted other stuff. I was right about the weighing issues. Scales weighed min 2 kgs , then in 1 kg increments. I was careful to categorize and weigh my scrap before I went there and had my own list of how many kilos of each. I asked them what would happen if I had brought in 2.4 kilos of copper. I would be paid for 2 was the answer. Something to consider should anyone brings in small amounts like I do!

I find they do. Not worth recycling back to the reserve bank like the 5c, 10c, 20, 50c coins. I just chuck them into my copper bucket and cash it all up every few months. Money for nothing.
