I will be in the Greymouth/Hokitika region in June for a week and would like to fill in time doing some panning and detecting. Hopefully to find some specks.
Any suggestions?

Goldsborough is worth the effort. People there will give you pointers. Just out of Hokitika

If you click on locations in the Paydirt title bar and then click on public fossicking areas you will see some places to go where you can pan for gold. Shamrock creek at Goldsborough is a good place to start. I have always found gold there, mostly very fine with the odd small flake. Only 20 minutes drive from Hokitika. Try the other places further up the coast like SlabHut creek, some nice gold in that creek.

Hope that helps?
Cheers, Ken.
