Got one thanks!

I am after a Bazooka gold trap. Really keen to give one a good try out. Ideally a 30 or 36inch. Anyone want to sell one or want to rent one out for Easter?

PM me if so.
cheers

Hi Jacko,

Yup brought one, I'm taking it out this weekend for its initial trial. I take it you might be thinking of buyng one also but not sure if they work properly? or do you have one already?

I'll post my findings if you like, I'll be panning my tailings for sure! I'm not totally sold on it as yet. Ideally I'd liked to have seen someone do a control test before I brought one. Still like to see someone do a proper control test. I've seen a YouTube vid of someone put an ounce of fines and small flakes in classified material and then process through a keene 51 and they got pretty much 99% retrieval. Would like to see someone do that with a Bazooka and see what % retrieval they got with unclassified material. Without that type of controlled test you can never be sure how it operates in ideal conditions... My own sluice water recycling setup hasn't a powerful enough water pump to run with a Bazooka or I'd do one myself.

Any sluice can still lose gold in certain circumstances so hey. I've seen people pan in such a way they'll be chucking away gold.

Seeing the Bazooka up close I am pretty happy with the design. The design, I think, as long as it's got the right water volume, angle should work. I think while classifying might not be so important with the Bazooka, the material will need to be broken up/loose and the length of the sluice is probably important to give the material enough time for heavies to fall towards bottom by the time they reach the trap, also keeping the tube holes clear necessary.

Anyway I'll let you know how it goes.
cheers

Hi ElCrazy
Sorry I didn't see your post earlier!!
I have a bazooka mini 24inch one which I've had for about a year and half! It works great but ive mainly been doing it with classified material. More to do with the length of it that anything, I've just order a prospecter 36 will look forward to that arriving :). If you have a drop its easy enough to put and pan there anyway and catch hopefully nothing!!
I have had a couple of pieces that I've seen (not big stuff) not end up in the trap when I tried it with non classified material but that's a feeding issue I'm pretty sure!! But other than that its awesome easy to set up.

Regards David

Thanks RioGold, Good to hear its working for you and easy to set up. Completely understand your comment on length, looking at it, without the length I can see material not having time to get to bottom before the trap and going out the end.

I have the 36 prospector with the extra heavyweight grizzlies 8-) can't wait to run some material through it!

cheers!

Hey ElCrazy
Nice! The only anothert. Thing you probably need to keep an eye on is the sticks and leaves getting struck on the tubes in the trap ! Which has happened a couple of times! Have fun out there

Haven't tried them but they are very compact - easy to carry in on your back.

This one has a piped water setup - what happens if the battery falls in water? YIKES!

Here is a basic schematic of how they operate (not 100% accurate).

Hi

I have had both a Keene52 and a Bazooka prospector. Thinking of selling the 52 after using the bazooka down the Arrow river. It recovered loads of Minus 100 mesh gold which is very fine and black sand was no problem.I latter put this concentrate thru my Blue bowl and was very happy.

The biggest advantage is No classiffying material and when set up right you can shovel a shit load of material thru. Biggest disadvantage is you need a big water flow to clear the material so setup needs some time.

Bottom line is the bazooka for me.

I've been inspired by a mini trommel to construct a couple of super light compact hand driven suices, between grinding cogs for my dynamo.
Able to be carried on back, and can be run without water or minimal water (one has water recycling).
