Well been back a week from our fossicking down south, still panning out the last of it. Pics will follow when we have it sorted.
Was our best result in five years of travelling down there stumbling around various spots.
Bought a sluice from the "hydraulic guy" in Greymouth and visited most the public area's on West Coast. Had good results on the way down, but for some reason didn't do so well on the way back up. Except Louis Creek, now able to say we have flour, specks, clinkers, and now clunkers. no nuggests yet. Local knowledge and a bit more experience certainly helped plus some long and hard days toiling.
Only difficulty was sandflies. Even caught a salmon in the canals at Pukaki and a sea run rainbow down Jackson's way.
Pics in a week or so

Ferk felt like Forrest Gump hoofing it to the 4WD in background to borrow landing net. My life would have ended if I cocked it up .

Whataroa was good , on the way down we saw the sign to the Recreation area just over the bridge as you come to Whataroa. Went in to have a look and didn't really find a tourist trap, just a helicopter operation, so we had a quick scrape and were very surprised at the result. Found lots of small specks and flour in each pan, sandflies got a bit much so I was instructed to do a quick gather and store it in a bucket for when we got home.I don't argue, said "Yes dear" you know how it is
The helicopter operation has a claim on the area and they gave us permission and said not many last the sandlies. We thought it was worth the effort, but on our way back we didn't find much and the sandflies weren't as bad. Found colour around big rocks and in the weeds and moss.
Hope thats any help, we will stop there again
