Hi, my name is Michael. I am a prospector and gold digger from Germany with over seven years experience of prospecting and mining in the West-African bush and another few in Scandinavia. Currently I am planning a new prospecting campaign in the Pacific region, intend to visit New Zealand too and just started my fundraising. If you want to know more about me I'd like to refer you to my website michael-schmitz.name.

Show me where the New Zealand Diamonds are? :))

You'll love the nature here, but be wary of our rivers - it rains a lot & heavy rain tens of kilometres away can cause a flash flood in a river you're in.
Near dry creeks can become swollen dangerous rivers preventing crossing for weeks, something to keep in mind also.

Look forward to seeing you out there.

Hi GoldPandemic,

thanks for your warm welcome ;-) With the rains it sounds a bit like Africa during raining season. Don't worry, I am used to that and keep myself and the gear out of the flood way. You mentioned the Diamonds ... I am sure you can find some if you look close enough. No finds up to now doesn't mean they aren't there. I even found some in Finnland where nobody thought there could ever be one ...

See you ...

Exactly what I was thinking. Please tell me where is a good candidate for a search and what type of rocks?
I might just think it is a crappy bit of quartz and fling it into the river!

Hiya,

always expect the unexpected and I can only tell you to google the necessary informations, go out into the fields and open your eyes. That's much faster than all my explanations here in this forum could be. Maybe we can meet, when I am visiting your country...

The Mt Somers 'diamonds' are tetrahedral quartz crystals. The diamond equivalent of Fools Gold.
Got a bag of 'em on my desk at work.

NZ doesn't have the deep intrusives necessary, but if you want to have a scratch around head for S.I. areas with granite (true granite, not diorite).

Just shifted the bag of Mt Somers diamonds, and it reminded me that I was going to post a pic
Biggest is about 1.5mm long

Wonder how far I'd get mounting these in 9ct rings and flogging them on TradeMe for thousands! Haha...

Interesting. Take a small corundum (crappy ruby - you can get them for a buck at Hippy Crystal Magic Spirit shops. Scratch it on the corundum if it survives and gives the corundum a diagonal frown :/ you might be in luck.

Diamonds can be brought up from the depths by volcanoes (we sure have a few of those about).
