Great stuff. I had a wee play a year ago around the main beach in Nelson by the long drop shed where the track begins and thought it was quite mineralised (gbpro). Can the CTX handle wet sand- its VLF? Or did you pick it up on dry sand.

Hi chchnuggetdetect

The CTX 3030 is a FBS (full band spectrum) so there are 28 frequencies. No problem in the water. Todays fine I was chest deep in wetsuit so the whole detector was underwater for 2.5 hours (underwater headphones for when those waves hit me). I detect all around NZ mostly beaches. Its almost a full time job.. bugger. But I do take a bit of time off to keep the handbrake happy.

Would my fisher gb work standing in shallow sea water? The box isnt waterproof but they have a long cable. I had the impression wet sand makes the gb nuts and i don't know if ground balance is sufficient. If necessary I might need to buy a waterproof pi or detector like the ctx, and I guess the ctx digs a lot less junk? What other detectors do guys use standing in the water, are most rings found standing in water. On wet sand tide fills in holes, does that happen as badly once the hole is in the water? I lost a hand grubber to a tide on the west coast once and had to run after a spade. I have found nuggets on land but not yet my first precious:) Have an older ML pi for wet sand and could sacrifice an older coil to use in shallow water. Is anyone using a snorkel?

Hi Chchnuggetdetector

I have had no experience with Fisher detectors. Probadly best to research on the web as to what detectors are best for wet sand and water to fit your budget. There is a huge amount of info if you start looking. Pays to get as much info before upgrading.

In wet sand and water you are best to use a sand scoop. These can be picked up new on ebay landed here in NZ for around NZ$150.00.
Stainless steel and go for the 2mm thick.

dont bother with the fishers for wet sand they will ground balance to salt but all the depth will go.go for a pulse machine the whites duel field is deep and a reasonable price.ive found over 50 gold rings with mine they are value for money.
